I've been using this tool to set prices for some eBay items and I've come up with a few interesting statistics:

For the last 90 days:
- 4,287 "vintage fedora"s were listed
- 54.70% of those sold
- Average price was $32.07
- Highest: $472.77 (VINTAGE '40s/'50s DK. BLUE BORSALINO FEDORA 7-1/4 MINT)
- Eleven (11) hats sold for $270 or more
- Highest prices paid for 7-1/2 and larger sizes
- Highest priced maker: Borsalino
- Highest priced model: Stratoliner
- Most common auction ending time: 12:00 to 1:00 (PT)
- Most common ending day: Sunday (rest of week pretty even)

Stratoliner Statistics (last 90 days):
- 30 listings
- 90% sell through
- $116.33 average sales price
- 10 hats sold for more than $175.00
- Most common size: 7-1/4
- Most common color: Gray (including blue gray)

That's fascinating, ZF. I'm not familiar with Terrapeak but I'm assuming that it's an Ebay data analysis program?

That kind of information is invaluable in trying to determine bidding strategies. It tells me why I keep losing on all those Stratoliner auctions. Guess I'm going to have to ask the wife for permission to go over three bucks. :D

I'm guessing that the program doesn't take into account the fact that many hats are listed without a specific size or color, and that terms like Stratoliner and Whippet are also used in conjunction with the words "clone", and "-like".

All of my auctions for vintage hats will now include the word "hamster" in the title, just to skew the data ever so little. :p

What do you mean when you say that you've been using it to set prices? Are you speaking as a buyer or seller? Please explain. Thanks -

Answers to Qs...

1) Terapeak IS an eBay data analysis program.
2) As for search terms, you can set them just like eBay. (e.g. -clone -like)
3) I use it BOTH to buy and sell (mostly to sell).

OKAY, Just ran it again on the following search terms:
stratoliner -clone -like -box -shoes -yamaha

Category = Clothing, Shoes, and Accessories (includes vintage and modern hats)

Here are the results (just hats), Aug. 4 - Nov. 1:
- 28 listings
- 92.86% sell through
- $122.01 average price
- Highest $296.09
- Most common sizes = 7-1/4 and 7-3/8
- Most common color = gray
- 10 sold for more than $175.00

Search Terms = whippet -clone -like -box -shoes -dog

- 92.31% sell through
- $99.33 average price
- $315.00 highest price
- Most common sizes = 7-1/4 and 7-3/8
- Most common colors = gray and brown
- Cheapest prices for 6-3/4 and 6-7/8 (splains the Billysmom/Mario thing)
- NO 7-1/2 hats
- NO 7-5/8 hats
- ONE 7-3/4 hat (long oval, and I didn't buy it... stupid me...)

No need to use Terapeak, all we have to do is ask you a question! Thanks for sharing all this information. I have also noted the Sunday night sale ending phenom and the Monday new hat listings. The guys who watch too much TV are always getting sniped!
