I saw this at the swap meet in town today, and it bamboozled both the seller and myself. Nobody knew what it was, and I figured that the fine vintage experts here would probably know. So, anybody know?

Other than that it reminds me of the contraption the ophthalmologists use - but I don't think it is - I have no idea.

This reminds me of one of my favorite "Andy Griffith Show" episodes.
Andy is having a rummage sale and one of the customers picks up a nondescript item and asks Andy how much it is.
