Any Cigar Afficionados Out There?

I like cigars -- or any quality form of tobacco, really. Marlboros don't do it for me and smell like burnt chemicals (probably because they are).

I've had Swisher Sweets and Phillies Blunts, but does anyone have any other recommendations that are decently priced and good bang for the buck? I've been thinking of trying cigarillos, those little half-cigar half-cigarette mutts.

As several people have mentioned, try J&R. To go from those abominations you mentioned to a real hand made cigar is like going from Mogan David to a bordeaux.

Haven't gotten around to trying that yet. I tried their version of the La Gloria Cubana and there is a difference. I had a draw problem with those too. The ice pick fixed it though and it smaked fine after that.

The only order I ever got from JR was a box and I could not draw through them no matter how much I cut. Didn't try the pick just gave them away. Will try cigar.com's brand soon though.

Is it the sweet flavor you like? Acid cigars by Drew Estates are good.Also those cigars you tried are going to get a lot hotter and harsh than a good cigar.

The cigar is a Puros Indios Cut Head #5. The watch is a Citizen Eco-Drive Nighthawk. The Hemi is an '05 Ram Quad Cab 1500 Thunder Road edition in graphite grey.

I wear a citizen Eco Drive but with a white face , and drive an '05 Ram Quad 1500 4WD.lol

JR Cigars are well-noted for shipping their cigars "wet" or over-humidified so that they don't dry out in shipping. This is especially important during the summer months as those trucks can get quite hot and really ruin your cigars as well as allowing the lacioderma beetles' eggs to hatch.

If you live in an area that's not so humid, make yourself a "dry box" which you can do with a cigar box. Allow those cigars you're going to smoke in a couple days to sit in there and "dry out." OR, just leave the boxes out a few days on the counter before putting them in your humidor.

They are really great cigars once you can smoke them.
I did allow them to dry for quite a while as well. Then again, I store them in a cool unheated room so how much they dry out is kind of hard to tell. Its been two months now.

You really should try the acid cigars by Drew Estates. You can get them in the smaller size, like a cigarillo... they come in a tin of 10, I think.

There are plenty of decent cigars that can be had for $2 or $2.50!
If you can get over the flavored cigars try Flor De Oliva, It's $2 and I believe is owned by Oliva cigars which makes quite a few that I like.
Once you try a decent cigar you will not want to have a phillie or swisher anymore! I started with Swishers and yes they were sweet but hot and just not good.

FdO's are getting a touch more expensive since they changed some of their lines. But the bundled FdO's are still in that ball park. One of the best deals in cigardom.

New Favorite

Like most things, I tend to over-invest in my collection. But in my adventures, I recently came across a cigar that is my new (current) favorite: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992. Anyone had any time with one of these? Lots of smoke, but very nice.

Also -- maybe someone can give me some guidance. I spend a lot of time at the cigar shop (mostly because it's right down the street from my shop [huh] ), but someone gave me a box of a cigar I've never had before. Remedios 95 Maduros. I've yet to try one -- thoughts?

I have had the vintage Rocky, I like the box pressed shape of them. Have never heard of the other though.

Remedios were a JR brand during the boom, ten years ago. It has it adherents, but many, MANY detractors. My guess would be "dog rocket." But you never know until you try. If you like it, then, it's a good cigar.
