I'll be in Austin, TX next weekend (4/21-23) following a week-long business trip to Dallas. I KNOW there's cool sh*t to do in Austin. Tell me where to go! Specifically, I'd like to know about any good bars, vintage clothing stores, or nightclubs/shows.

Check out the Continental Club. Depends on the night, but is usually a good place to hang out. When you first get there find a copy of the weekly Austin Chronicle for the nightlife. Bands worth seeing include Shorty Long, Paris 49, Wayne Hancock, Dale Watson, Heybale. Plenty of others, but these jump to my mind.

I don't know much about vintage shopping in Austin, except for one place called Hog Wild on the north side of town. Not just clothing there, it's eclectic. They have a killer selection of old 60s/70s/80s toys in the back if you're feeling nostalgic.

Enjoy the trip, it's a great town!

I'd already checked the Continental Club website, hoping I'd be able to see Wayne Hancock on his home turf, but no luck. Mike Flanigin b-3 Trio is playing the Friday and Saturday nights that I'll be there. Know anything about them?

And of course, I love Junior Brown, but he'll be in Boston while I'm in Austin :-(

I miss this town.

I can vouch for the Continental, but I haven't lived there in many, many years.

If any are still open, there were dome great indendant shops (records, clothing, coffee) on Guadalupe where the staff could point you toward the 'hipness'.

I wish I was back there.

OH! Late night bites at Magnolia Cafe on South Congress!!!! 3 alarm tacos! Veggie soft taco goodness full of two kinds of HOTness.

*no longer veggie, but I still crave these fortnightly.

Itinerary down memory lane:
-Ego's bar for happy hour and pool.
-Dinner at Green mesquite, or one of the taquerias...
-Metro Cafe for espresso.
-Dog & Duck pub for pints and darts.
-Continental for martinis and conversation.
-Ellysium (nee Atomic Cafe) for eye candy desert.
-Magnolia Cafe for late night

I was just there

I was in Austin for a Lone Star Round up. Awesome car show. On Congress St. there are alot of cool shops. Some vintage shops and some cute little shops. There is a little purple flyer that has some vintage shops listed with a map (most usefull). I had an absolute blast there. Good places to eat, Magnolia's cafe on Congress, Ironhorse dont know the street but very good BBQ. The resturants on Congress were awesome. Diffently go to the south side of town.

Never seen Mike Flanigin, but it's hard to go wrong with a B-3 based trio. Hmm, sounds like a good excuse for me to make a trip to Austin!

And doesn't that just figure about Junior Brown. My particular problem is I always hear about shows the day after they happen. I've got a real talent for that!
