Saw this on the Consumerist. Reminds me of the anti-theft "soup can" and "head of lettuce" you can put in your cupboard/icebox with cash rolled up in it.

Just hope the cleaning crew at the office doesn't come through and see your "moldy" sandwich before you've had a chance to eat it! :eusa_doh:

I recall that someone at a previous work place spoke about having a series of lunches stolen from the lunchroom refrigerator.

I think they set up a booby trap lunch and took blue ink from a pen to put on the sandwich so the thief would have a blue tongue after eating it.

I've wondered this, too. It's a low form of theft and it's pretty shameful. I had a coworker who had her lunch stolen one day. Then, after she wrote her name on her lunch bag the next day, the thief took a bite from the sandwich and put it back.:rage: Poor girl was in tears.

That type of behavior is not a lack of regard but true disdain for others. Not a lack of empathy but the idea to hurt others.

I wish someone would steal out of our office community fridge. When it finally got cleaned out last week there were items in there that had expiration dates from 2008. No fake moldy bags required. I sure don't put anything of mine in there. :essen:

At the same place, a coworker brought in a whole container of milk and wrote a note on it: "I SPIT IN MY MILK"

Someone keeps stealing my eggs out of the communal refrigerator, which is very frustrating, as often they are my only source of protein. I am not even sure that he eating them, as there have been egg stains on the street outside our building.

I have been contemplating getting a few eggs, and carefully emptying them before filling them with red dye to catch the criminal red handed.

Then the next day you make a really really good lunch and put a potent laxative in it. Then keep a small cooler by your desk with your lunch. Bet that will be the last lunch they ever steal.

I've had to switch up my anti-lunch theft tactics to avoid getting in trouble with HR for intentionally adulterating "bait" foods.

I like spicy food. Everybody on my floor knows that. So if I happen to lace my ham sandwich with a generous helping of Dave's Insanity Sauce, it's not out of character for me. Further, Dave's Insanity Sauce is a food product that is commonly sold in stores, not a toxin or drug that does not normally belong in food.

As far as I am concerned, I am doing the same thing as putting mustard on a hot dog. I can't be accused of attempting to poison anyone. I'm just adding condiments.

If, by perchance, a thief were to steal my plain-looking sandwich and take a bite of 180,000 Scoville Heat Unit flavored ham, that would be a real shame! lol

Oh, I'm with you there. In my opinion thieves get what they deserve. In fact our workplace has fired people caught (on camera) for stealing lunches before. However, it works both ways. In today's society where burglars can sue homeowners for injuries sustained while committing crimes, I guess I cannot blame HR for being strict.
