I decided to sell my wife's grandpa circa late 70's gorgeous montecristi semi-calado. I just don't feel quite right wearing it and would rather it be with someone who would wear it.
The hat was re-blocked by myself, I also did the ribbon and hand sew the leather sweat. I did a good job but it is by no means the work of a professional. It was done with care and with the help of the few tools I have. Some of you probably saw the step by step I posted a few days ago. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted a bunch of pictures from photobucket so it's gone.
Details.
Size: 7 1/8 (can most likely be reblocked to a bigger size as body was marked in pencil 7 3/8)
Brim: 2 1/2
Crown: 41/2
Ribbon: Black 1 1/2 inches.
Hat is in pristine shape, it was never worn as the old man had it rolled in a box. It has a gorgeous golden patina. The weave is tight and beautifully done. Only flaw is a small stain in the sweatband as it wasn't brand new when I sew it.
I had the hat appraised here in NY and both hatters told me they sell hats of similar quality, brand new in the range of $350-$400 bucks. This one has some age and that makes it very precious.
Take this beauty home for $255 shipped USA.
