baseball caps

yo artboynyc,

give my regards to the lower east side.

on to the caps:

the quality of the caps from cooperstown ballcap co.
www.ballcap.com
is superb. nothing like todays new eras. they fit like caps, are wool fanel and soft soft soft. even in new england i get complements guys on my 1947 yankee cap. they custom make each cap and will adjust measurements to suit your head. takes about a month to get one, more maybe once the season begins.

sounds fedora hatter familar.

what film noir fedora should i buy? today i am leaning towards art fawcett, yesterday in was steve delk tomorrow i will have forgotten my prior two choices and will favor the 1936 fieldmaster. i don't think i can [look i am married ok and my wife isnt a hat freak]spend the 200+ and justify it at home.

winky.

The thing about the costs for a quality fedora has to be put in perspective. You will go to Penny's and buy a cheap suit for 2-3 hundred dollars and wear it few years and give it to Goodwill who will in turn sell it for 9.49. You can spend about the same amount for a quality fur felt fedora, that if properly taken care of will last long enough to pass on to your grand kids. Its just that the general public is used to spending 14.00 on a ball cap or $45.00 on a wool Pendelton fedora. Money spent on a quality fedora is the best money you could ever spend on clothing for how long it will last you.

The key phrase here is "Quality felt fedora". Meaning "NOT OFF THE SHELF!" If you insist on buying new off the shelf fedora's, don't say you weren't warned ahead of time of what you will end up with.

i will never

i will never buy a modern hat off the shelf. perish the thought. cast me into exterior darkness if i ever again mention that unmentionable act. there should be some name for that purchase that has no name. i did some complex calculations involving adding, mutiplication and divison and have determined that spread over a year the cost per hour for a 225 hat is only 00.1541 cents.

so thank you all: fedoralover, sharpetoys, bellytank, renderking, andykev, matt deckard and the nameless thousands who contributed to this decision. i will need to flip a friggin coin: heads is art tails is steve. to be continued on monday. i will keep you posted.

sharptoys so this is it:

i emailed steve delk and ordered the hat. should end up a combination of allan ladd's in "this gun for hire" and dick powell in "murder my sweet." gonna go with a dark brown, which i believe was a color used for many of the hats. funny how they always seem black or grey.

so thanks for the advice and guidance it is much appreciated.
