Another new hat

I think I may have a new favorite hat. This one was purchased off ebay, and just arrived in the mail today. It looks like it has never been worn. It's a dark charcoal Resistol with really dense felt (beaver xxx), kitten finish, and stiff enough to really hold it's shape (as opposed to the Borsalino I just bought that could be reshapped with a stiff wind.) The leather sweatband is still very soft and supple. And this must be the Cavanaugh edge I've read so much about. The edge of the brim is slightly thicker, but with no visible joint or stitching. This hat almost makes me want to sell my other felt hats. Almost...

It also came with the box that has a vinyl belt with buckle. A cash register receipt is stapled to the box, but the ink is faded.

Now there is the question of it's age. Any comments?

I tried taking a pic of myself wearing it, but it turned out terrible. I'll try again later maybe.

Nice Hat!

Very nice hat. I too, just purchased a resistol similar to yours off ebay. Can't wait for it to arrive. Congrats, and wear it proudly.

Good catch, Squid!

I have a few Resistols, and they are some of my favorites as well. Enjoy! :eusa_clap

You may get better, more authoritative feedback from our more studied Loungers, but I would guess a '60's from the liner logo. From what I have read in other threads, Resistol stopped producing "dressy" fedoras in favor of western hats about the mid-70's. I would guess that the shield logo in my picture below is likely a '58 - '62, only because it has a backbow, and that the backbow was apparently a short-lived style that didn't stay around long. All of mine, except one, have the earlier logo, and the Beaver Twenty has felt as plush as many Borsalinos I have encountered.
