Yes, yet another one. Have a cigar, I have cubans. :cool2:

I found this place through Jim Ferreiras photography site just the other day. Figure I'll be staying here for a while so here are some quick facts about me:

Name: Harald Carlsson
Born: 1980
Live: southern Sweden
Work: selling computers
Fedora: one, black (just a few months old)

I'm crazy about film noir (The Swede in my handle is a nod to Lancaster in the very fine film noir The Killers), but I like many kinds of movies made during this time period. Apart from waist bands trying to beat belly buttons in a race for the sky I like the fashion of the time as well.

Another passion of mine is cigars. I usually smoke several a week. Actually, most days when I don't smoke cigars I heat up a pipe. You have to take full advantage of living alone. ;)

When it comes to reading I could read Raymond Chandler's Marlowe books over and over again. I'm constantly searching for hard-boiled detective fiction that can match Chandler, but it isn't an easy find.

So there you have it. Pretty much all you need to know about me.

Already finished the cigar? Have another.

Welcome Harald...you are among kindred spirits! I too like a good cigar from time to time and recently took up the pipe again - luckily, I have a tolerant wife!

Your comments about Chandler are right on target - NOBODY writes like Chandler. Ross MacDonald is decent and Rex Stout (of Nero Wolfe fame) is fun - but for putting the whole story and mood together, Chandler is the only one I've read who delivers the complete package. I'm just finishing up "The Simple Art of Murder" and although I like his later work, some of his earlier writings are a bit edgier and really capture the essence of the "hard-boiled" detective of the 1930's.

Anyway, welcome to the Lounge! Cheers!! :cheers1:

Hej Harald!

Hej Harald-
Welcome!
I'm in Ã…rhus, Denmark- moving to KBV in a couple of months.
There was another Swede here, a while back- Forstorp was his Lounge name-
-had a local (Sthm)wholesale connection to some vintage new-old-stock Borsalino hats...
Hasn't posted in a long time.

Malmø? Lund?

See you 'round!

Thanks for the welcome.

I work in Malmö and used to live in Lund. Now I live just outside.

Actually when I drive to work I turn at the last exit before reaching the bridge between our countries.

Ross Macdonald has his moments, but I agree. He is no Chandler. I like just about everything Chandler wrote. Have read all the Marlowe novels and two short story collections. Jim Thompson is often mentioned when talking about hard-boiled fiction. It was a long time ago since I read anything by him, but I remember thinking his language was a bit too juvenile. Will probably seek him out again if I get a recommendation for a really good book.

Good to meet ya Harald!!

Good to meet ya Harald!!

And thanks for the smokes!

I ran into you over in the moving pictures site. But I figured that I'd drop in and voice a proper welcome.

I also havn't been around here for long. But since they'll let anyone in here (Even nogoodnicks like me) I figure that I'd drop in from time to time. So we'll see you around.

Welcome Harald, my great Grandfather was 100% Swede. If you only have one fedora now, believe me after hanging around this joint for a while you'll be seeing that number go up while your bank account goes down.

That's funny. My great grandfather actually emigrated to the US (leaving my then 2 year old grandfather alone in Sweden with my great grandmother). :)

That's what I'm afraid of. I already spend too much money on cigars and movies (film noir). Plus I'm trying to work out if I can save up enough money to go to the San Francisco Film Noir Festival next year. ;)
