Anachronistic Displacement

I cought a couple episodes of "1940s house".

Made me think about how we (I) romanticize the past.
What I found intersting was how hard it was for those people who were really just pretending. Life was harder. Might have been simpler in some respects but much harder. We really have it much better today as far as technology goes.

And hey just about any kind of behavior is tolerated anywhere any time. (Kidding of course) There are no rules of etiquette, dress or speech.

My wife just sent me a list of "Suggestions for the housewife" from 1955. While we did have a good laugh at some of the more outrageous parts (Never question your husbands decisions) it struck me that it came from a time when peoples roles were much more defined. I know it might not be popular to say that, but I.M.H.O. structure is part of what is missing from modern life.

Just some thoughts.

Harder only in perspective of today.

Back then it was just what it was. You only know something is "harder" if you know something easier is available.
