Amish Milk Terrorists

I've never had raw milk before, but I think it's ridiculous that they would set up an Amish guy like that.

Just playing devil's advocate - but what if some child or pregnant woman were to drink some of this raw milk and someone were to die, or she miscarried, or a child were born with some form of birth defect? Would you then feel the police, who were investigating a report of unlawful conduct (and apparently, the informant was truthful and correct), were wasting their time or picking on some poor farmer or should've been doing something more important? What if one of the victims were a member of your immediate family? Would it then seem to trivial and unimportant?

I've had plenty of raw milk in the past and although I am no longer a milk drinker, raw milk is unquestionably the best.
If memory serves me, I think the real danger used to be that bovine TB was carried in milk and if people drank it they would get TB. Pasturization solved that problem. Today, I think TB in cows is much less likely to occurr so the risk is now very small in raw milk. As far as other germs, well germs can be found almost anywhere and I doubt pasturized milk makes your life all that much safer.

What about freedom of choice? If a pregnant woman breakfasts on cigarettes and scotch the prognosis for the child is rather bleak, but no sane person suggests we ban tobacco or liquor for that reason. The public is well aware that raw milk is risky, just like raw eggs, crossing the road, taking a bath or any number of ordinary things. If we must, mandate that raw milk must carry a prominent health warning if sold, but to ban it is nannyism of the highest order. The government has no right to choose what I pour on my wheaties.

I've had it and I turned out OK.

I think Dietrich hit the nail on the head. One should be able to indulge in milk straight from the cow if so desired.

On Hiatus. Really. Or Not.
Having grown up on a farm with milk cows...

The only appropriate use for raw milk is to squirt the barn cats (usually lined up in a row and meowing their fool heads off) with the last bit (which has to be drained by hand). No matter how sanitary the barn may be, having seen how persuasive bovine solid waste is in and around a dairy operation, I'll take mine pastuerized ANY day of the week.

Looks like Big Brother got to the story before I could click on the link.

What is wrong with this country? People have been drinking raw milk for thousands of years, and now all of a sudden it’s deemed unsafe?

The same with toys. Things that I used to play with, or my parents or grandparents are now too dangerous for kids today.

By sheltering our children so much we are doing far more harm than good.

As the story has been censored, I’m not sure what kind of farm the milk came from. If it was from some farmer who just has a couple of cows in his barn, and lets them graze out in the field then that milk would be far healthier than the stuff they sell in the stores.

The milk you buy in the store is from cows that have been pumped full of chemicals their whole lives. On top of that, if you read the ingredients on the side of the milk carton, there are so many additives it’s practically not even milk anymore.

The reason children are developing faster and going through puberty sooner these days, is because we are, indirectly, filling them full of growth hormones, and who knows what other chemicals, that are given to the cows so that they grow faster, larger, and produce more milk. But hey, if a corporation can make a few extra bucks at the expense of our kids, who am I to complain. After all this is ‘merica.
