Well, I'll tell ya of one I really enjoy, it's a little shack down the street from the railroad track, the place is called Monrovia Pizza Co. One of many "Pizza Co." locations in the San Gabriel Valley.

Good prices, and good slices! I'm tellin' ya, wholesome good ol' fashioned pizza with plenty of the good stuff without all the greese that other corparate pizza chains seem to have. I'm not so big on pizza inindated with greese!

Those who have tried it, like it! Maybe not the World's Best Pizza (that shop went out of biz 20 years ago!) but it's up there in my book of favorites!

Glad I have whet all those American appetites.

Tonight from my own electric Pizza oven we had:

Gorgonzola + proscuitto (Australian nicer than Parma ham)
Artichokes, 1/2 dried tomatoes marinated in oil and herb with dried herbs and Sicilian green olives (the medium fat ones)
Bacon and egg (Aussie) boys’ favourite
Greek salsa leftover chicken breasts with ham and BBQ sauce…my boy’s favourite.

2 x Peroni beers

Marg NZ Giessen Sauvignon Blanc.

Looking for America's best pizza by only visiting ten cities.
25 pizzas, only 8 states represented.
Starting on the assumption that nobody in the South, Pacific Northwest, Plains, Rockies, or Midwest outside Detroit and Chicago can make pizza.
Methods seem a bit flawed.

It's that darned regional elitism rearing its ugly head again.lol

He also pretty much dismisses thin crust out of hand.

I think that for masquerading his regional prejudice and personal quirks as a definitive "best of" list, he should be forced to go to Japan and Korea to find the best pizza there.*

*if you never had the... pleasure... of East Asian pizza, let's just say that if you like your shrimp pizza with squid ink sauce and extra raw corn, you're a seriously damaged person.

Yeah, the joint's just below Trader Joe's and north of Colombo's Italian Steak House and Tommy's Burgers. And an unofficial Lounge meeting there would be swell.

I'll have to check out Monrovia Pizza Co. My favorite pizza restaurant is called Domenico's on Huntington Dr. in Monrovia. Great food, nice place but maybe a bit pricey. For really good, fast and less pricey pizza I prefer World's Best Pizza in Hacienda Height's.

Here in the San Gabriel Valley my vote goes to Petrillo's which has 2 locations, Valley Blvd in Rosemead and on Foothill (Route 66) in Glendora. Their plain cheese pizza with extra sauce is superb, no need to load up on all sorts of stuff. Second is the California Pizza Kitchen's Margherita pizza, a really good plain pizza. I belive a pizza can only be good if the plain version is good on its own.

However, as pizza goes: Albert's Pizza on Great Neck Road in Copiague, Long Island, New York is my all time favorite. About 2 blocks south of the train station on the east side. They were once on Oak Street a block away from the current location and and at about 8 years old we went in and I had a pizza epiphany and complete conversion. Their construction and flavor is unique as is their time tested check as to when a pizza is correctly "done" in their oven. ( A flat wood tooth pick in the crust of the pizza will be the appropriate color brown and insure the crust is correct.) At that time Alberts had round pizza (Neapolotine) and thicker crusted square pizza (Sicilian) with cold sodas, no sandwhiches or other Italian food. In the summer you could get Italian Ices there too. Pizza was their stock in trade. Their local reputation was and is legendary. Albert himself was a Prince among men and the place made you feel a part of the community.

Occasionally we get Pizza Q or Blue T Pizza and each had its own unique approach to the concept of pizza as a good change of pace.
I need to find a source for the pizza garlic powder found in the NYC Long Island area.

I can personally attest to Gialina in San Francisco....it's not quite my neighborhood place, we're one or two neighborhoods away, but my roommates and I frequent there as often as we can. Terrific pizza.

I have travelled the world during my 66 years and simply love a well made pizza. Having eaten pizza in every visit, I would say that the best made pizzas just happen to be made by the everyday mom and pop small town deli-variety stores. This is especially true of those places that have developed a unique personal process and receipe.

Here's my pick for the very best pizza I have ever eaten and you're not going to believe the location. It is (drum roll), The Great Northern Lights deli store at the intersection of Route 16 and Route 26 in Errol, New Hampshire.

Errol, NH is a town of 826 residents and is located in far Northern NH. When you order a fully loaded pizza, you get at least a full inch of toppings on some of the greatest home-made crust made all for a hearty $13.50. Trust me when I tell you that it weighs at least 4.5 pounds. I personally can eat a whole pizza and simply cannot down 3 pieces of these beauties. Next time I pick one up, I'll take a photo and post it. Unbelievable!!!

Truer words have rarely been spoken! While not all Pizza places are also delis it's the mom and pop places that do have those unique and personal expressions of style. Alberts has a great combination of ingrediants but has the rare construction twist of sauce over the cheese.

I do feel sorry for those that live in areas where it's national chains that are the only source of pizza, it's time to throw off those chains that bind you!

I forgot to mention that the $13.50 is for the LARGE pizza. The small is about $9.00. The price is unheard of.

I do love that Totonno's made the list...I haven't been out to Coney Island in awhile, and I thought it was supposed to re-open this fall sometime...I guess we'll see...

I have to say, I'd call out DiFara's in Brooklyn (Ave J in Midwood) as my favorite pizza...all pies are made by Domenico DeMarco (below)

There's always a line out the door...its CRAZY. But the pie is really worth it!!
