Am I the only member who doesn't wear a hat?

I've tried buying and wearing a few and they never seemed to suit me. I joined here because I casually love the 1920s-1970s in all respects, especially the 1950s-1970s; This is the closest forum to that era; I like old fashioned clothes, Clark Gable and Bogart movies, pre-1980s politics and music from the 1930s-1970s. But I've never been a hat wearer as much as I've tried.

Anyone else here not really a hat wearer?

Until a couple of days ago, NO! Then I took a shower, after I dried my hair, I looked in the mirror and though, I have dandruff. Well, I haven't had that in at least 40 plus years, then I realized, it was peeling because of a recent sunburn. I went out and bought two cowboy hats, one grey felt, and a straw one for working outside. Going to have to get in the habit of wearing them, especially in the summer!

At present I'm not really wearing hats because until I get eyeglass frames that are more flattering, the combination (including ballcaps) makes me look old.

I don't really wear hats very much because I noticed that none of my hats fit me except a trilby: All my hats besides my 1960s or 1970s trilby are one size or more too big.

Besides, I personally feel some of my hats make my face look even rounder.

Other than the occasional baseball cap mainly for rain or sun protection and only in casual situations, I don't wear hats as I can't pull off the look - I just look like I'm trying to dress from another era. However, I've seen people pull it off with ease. For me, it's about knowing my limits.

It really depends what you are trying to match: what kind of hat to what kind of head; what kind of shape of hat to shape of face: what kind of hat to what kind of figure you carry and what you wish to cut as a figure with a hat.

When you consider the practical use of it, it is the head in outdoor weather, what a helmet is on the motorcycle. It has a function: it keeps the rain or the sun off from giving you one of those weirdo facial tans with whites behind where the sunglasses sit. I have two Panama hats (one is a Stetson, for all of my commercially glib consumerism) as well as newsboy caps (another linen Stetson *gulp*) as well as some niche polyester and practical cotton hats for summer.

Now when you say, 'they never seemed to suit me', that does not mean that they won't come to suit you. What are you struggling with in particular? You've described a kind of idealised Hollywood hat image - and that is a marketed version of 'the hat' appeal, which may or may not translate to your wardrobe. Are you wearing a hoody with a hat and finding it does not work, or perhaps, track bottoms and t-shirt? Now in a day like this, wearing a hat depending on your precinct or suburb might seem out of shape or character. When they suit; hats have a functional down to earth appeal. They are not some kind of poncy Pete Doherty throw on for image on stage, which only makes the hair more greasy and sweaty.

The newsboy cap is very straightforward; in England we wear these a lot. I notice in Spain, they seem more unusual culturally and my friends there think it's slightly fashionable to be sporting a newsboy cap. There are different kinds; baker boy 8 panels etc. If all else fails, then fear not. You are going to be that ultra special 'non-hat wearer' who can wear a Nigel Cabourn pom pom authentic mountain ascent alternative

I rarely wear hats except for sun protection when I'm going to be outdoors. But I have a lot of hats because I like them. I just like knowing that they're there. I have a Stetson, a Scots bonnet, a boonie hat I bought in Nairobi and others, plus several Greek, Roman and Medieval helmets. I will not wear a baseball cap. I just hate them.
I wish I was the kind of guy who could wear a hat with style, like Frank Sinatra, but I usually just look like a dork.

It's just a case of each to their own. There's no heresy in not wearing a hat, good grief, how boring would we be if we slavishly followed some sort of 'uniform?'
For what it's worth, I don't own a single piece of denim. Not a pair of jeans, not a denim jacket, nor shirt or overalls. Denim just looks contrived on me, simply because I prefer other fabrics. Ain't no crime.

I don't wear a hat anymore except for wool caps in winter. Fashion has improved tremendously since this place started in the early 2000s, when people were walking around with three inches of pant leg dragging on the ground, muffin tops, and uncombed hair. I'm a lot happier wearing current styles now than I was then, and current styles don't really go with hats. Besides, the sun doesn't roast me in Indiana the way it did in Colorado.
