You all with your vintage in thrift stores, your classic cars in barns, your custom hatters and suit shops. Your "not having to fly 3 hours to Seattle just to start your trip somewhere".

I did a bit of a search and found folks who've visited the Last Frontier or lived here for a bit, but no one living actually living here right now.

Any one? Any one? [huh]

Skagway...

I was in Skagway the summer of '94.

When I walked into a Tourist Shop there, the young ladies were playing the soundtrack for Swing Kids...it was just the start of the Swing Revival.

At the time there were actually a couple of Retro Clothes stores and a couple of Bars playing Swing up in Anchorage around then too.

The Swing Bar at Koots is just another bar anymore. The serious dancers are fewer and somewhat homeless. There are a few folks selling hats and (dance) shoes but it is nothing like it was in the early/mid 90's.

The trouble with vintage anything up here is that the population was so small in the 30's-60's that there just isn't much volume. Either you import it from down south or the stores do. :(

I've always thought visiting Alaska would be cool. And, I totally wanted to live there during the time I watched Northern Exposure. :)

Anchorage is a little different than the show, we're a real city. :D

But we still have moose and bears wandering through downtown and backyards even today. There are two wolf packs on the outskirts of town and we have a world class salmon fishery just blocks away from the major hotels. There's just no more beautiful and wild place on earth. And while Anchorage may not be "Alaska" anymore, you can still see it from here.

We're not Rhode Island or Texas or any of the other small states, it takes more than just one or two visits to see even a fraction of what there is to see. lol

Cool. Did you create that graphic? If so, do you mind if I download it? Every year I read a story with my students about a little girl in Alaska, that would be so cool to show them.
