I would think buying a hide a hide and then getting it made might end up quite expensive. I looked for Nat CXL hide from a wholesaler for several months and then gave up. The quality was up and down, communication wasn't great, and then the maker has to actually approve the hide. Depending on what your guy is charging, I can't imagine anyone bein in the same price/quality as Diamond Dave right now. He does great MC jackets, and has a variety of really nice leathers. He also has the horween Essex discussed earlier, plus a variety of high quality other horse/steer, in various colours. He will also dye leather and put various finishes on for you.
Check these out. It will most likely end up cheaper, and they are stunning.

It's a local guy. They have bright colored leather or black only, nothing more natural looking.

eugenesque, that is typical for un-dyed, vegetable-tanned leather. It's not super great for something like a jacket, from what I understand (Very stiff, and stains easily).

I will see if I can find the sources for Langlitz or the source for Vanson "Octogon" style leather.

SamZ, thanks for the reply. My understanding is that such un-dyed veg tanned leather gets scratched very easily too. Is this true?

I think this was a Will addition. It was removed shortly after he left.

The bottom button does look like a really oddly placed one. I'm assuming that's for the guy who worries overly that the bottom two inches of his jacket might flap in the wind?

If memory serves, that jacket was special-ordered by Drifter Promotions, who then sold it on eBay. I don't think it was ever on the AL website as a model. Definitely illustrates why Ken and Denny are prepared to say 'no' to certain customisations: once it's out there with your name on it, you'll be judged by it.

The hippy jacket I don't see Aero making again. I remember it seeming out of place (though presumably at one time somebody thought there was a market for it). When I visited the factory in 2014, Rachel did mention that Ken was consciously stopping the Aero style-clock at 1959, so.

Back in 2012 or earlier I remember griff de la griff had a cafe racer done in this hide. (I think). I loved it then and still do. His jacket was the one that introduced me to Aero.

It scratches as easily as any other leather that doesn't have that plastic coating on it AFAIK.

No, I think the button-hole side is tucked under the buttons. It just looks like a botched jacket - it's bell-shaped, ferchrissakes!

Ok got it now.

Horween mustang hh, looks fantastic.

What does Bootlegger STF mean?

The Bootlegger I think is one of those they recommend going down a size on?
