Does it make sense to restore the jacket to the first type
Hood (delete, remove lightning) that it was a whole,
Search for other locks on sleeve!
The rest of the leather jacket-whole (still to be processed treatment Pecard Leather)

The zip could be removed from the hood along with the additional dark fleece surround. It would be more difficult to remove the front zips and re-instate them on the sleeves. But it could be done, but would not be cheap. If you are planning to sell the cost of the restoration work would be more than you would get for the jacket.

It really can't be valued without knowing the size, plus as it's a one off there is nothing to compare it with.

The more I look at the pictures of that hood the more I can't help but think it's been inspired by USAF N-2 parkas. They are the only flight jackets of that general era that I can think of that have that feature. The zippered hood was to make the hood less intrusive, cumbersome and more comfortable to wear down when the wearer was wearing a bone dome, headset, etc.

The CC isn't my area of interest but I'd imagine that CC Irvins were still being worn in the early Cold War era on the long and cold maritime patrols for Soviet subs by some crew members on Shackletons and even Neptunes. If so, I don't think it's outside the realms of possibility that some creative crew member has been inspired by seeing N-2 jackets worn by his comrades in the USAF and had some alterations made to make the jacket more comfortable to wear on airborne duties.

But this is all speculation and without provenance we'll never know for sure.

As others have said, such a curio is probably difficult to value but I would not alter it, leave it and enjoy or sell as is.

The jacket is the size Large/Chest 42-44 "
In my 54, height is 183, weight 95 kg / me a little bit
measurements
24,5 inches (60-62cm) from underarms across the chest.
24 inches (60 cm) along the lower hem.
20,5 inches (52cm) across the shoulders.
25,5 inches (65 cm) shoulder to cuff.
27 inches (67-68cm) along back seam from collar to lower hem.
It weighs approximately 2.5Kg.

Yes, my jacket Original !!!
(the issue in the restoration of the hood)
Yes! I do part of the work itself
Hood-nothing complicated
Will the original (everything is whole, need to sew and tape into place!)
Pockets remove the back zipper on the sleeve, I will refer to the master and to your colleagues for advice and help!

Here's my original jacket.
Half the belt and one sleeve zip were replaced by Eastman when he did this sort of thing also put a new tab on the main zip for free. But that was over 10 years ago
