Just when I think I've finally made up my mind for the leather I want John has to add this to the choice. It's a bit darker horsehide and has a spray finish. It's either this one or the Dubow in the Vermont espresso which is Aniline dyed. The Vermont espresso is soft and looks more worn right out of the box. This darker Aero is more smooth and stiffer to start but John says will break in with a whole lot of graining.

I'm getting the Dubow contract, it's just the leather choice that's killing me.

Please voice your opinions and give me some input.

To my eye, the darker Aero looks much more hip; the stitching on the Dubow and the cuffs and waist band look off. As for the leather again the Aero: I would prefer to break in a jacket.

Okay, I definitely like the first one.
-Love the orange stripe
-I like the darker color.
-Something about the way the pockets look bunchy on the second one bugs me.
-The cuffs and waistband are too prominent on number two.
On the whole, I just think that the first looks stronger, more substantial somehow. Just my opinion...

Thanks, I really appreciate the input. Please continue fellow loungers.

BTW, I should have mentioned, the second one is a lighter weight and softer leather and is by design supposed to look more worn from the start. So far all my daughters and wife also like the darker one as well. But I still want others observations.

I prefer the top one also; the ribbing on the bottom one is too pinky for my tastes, and I don't care for the contrasting stitching either. Then again I could do without the orange tag on the top one... :)

Ok I'm weird, I like the second one. Being lighter I would get more use out of it, I like the contrasting stitching and most of all it's different from the multitude of flight jackets you see. Just my opinion.....

Here's a close up of the two different leathers. The stitching color and the knits can all be varied to suit one's taste. It's the leather difference that's making it hard for me to pick. I like both, but can only afford one.

Yikes...I prefer the expresso Dubow as well! I just hate waiting, watching and hoping for grain to develope. IMO..an expresso flavored Dubow brewed up by John Chapman would be good taste.....

PS...I might go for a less contrasting thread,tho....

Fedoralover, after reading the comments on #2, and yours re ability to change stitching and cuff color, and considering your age (?) #2 will be much nicer to wear and touch from the git go.

It's interesting that so far all the ladies here and my wife and 2 daughters like the darker hide on the Aero and who could ignore Betty's insight. I'll have to take that into consideration. I love the look on both but keeping the wife and my daughters happy may sway me to the darker one.

Time share??

Hey Dixon, hows this for an idea. We'll both kick in for the jacket and then take turns wearing it. We all rotate our hats and jackets anyway, no since letting one just sit idle. Just like time share on a beach house.

I like the Dubow as it is, choice #2. The leather on the Aero looks like so many others. As a lot of folks mentioned in the GW thread, the Dubow as picture looks like an original. #1 looks like well, any other present day leather. I would say with all of John's attention to authenticity in construction, go with a leather that will look like this in time:
front_view_flat.jpg

I don't have the experience many others have, but I see the aniline hide more likely to develop this way. When I look at pictures of groups of pilots in A-2's I notice the jackets are far more wrinkled in the sleeves and backs than many jackets built today, hinting at a thinner leather.[huh]
Good luck fedoralover, tell us where it goes!

I prefer the #2 jacket purely because of the aniline dye/finish. I think that will develop more character and personalization over time than the spray-dyed jacket.
