With all the discussion going on around this forum on the modern trend to dress down I thought the lyrics to a song I wrote several years ago might bring some smiles.
All Dressed Up
By Mike DeShazer
Ole June Cleaver was a mighty nice girl
She was all made-up in her homemade world
She took it by the hand and she gave it a whirl
Doing the housework in her high heels and pearls
She's all dressed up
She's all dressed up
And it shows
Now Ward comes home, he's a real go-getter
Gives her a kiss as she hands him the letters
Trades his jacket for a cardigan sweater
In his pipe, tie and loafers, you know he couldn't look better
He's all dressed up
He's all dressed up
And it shows
He's all dressed up with no place to go
I've got a neighbor cute as can be
In a silky blouse and a skirt above the knee
Hair, make-up and nails done so perfectly
But don't look too close, you'll find she is a he!
Fashions come and fashions go
What used to be cool now is cold
I feel over-dressed in my casual clothes
Am I just getting old?
Now my daughter comes down looking clean and pressed
She's got a big date and she wants to impress
But I send her back until she looks her best
You see no daughter of mine's going out half-dressed
And she's all dressed up
She's all dressed up
And it shows (yeah, too much)
She's all dressed up with no place to go
Spoken:
(That's right darling, no place to go.
So you better go right back and put something on over that slip thing you're wearing. I don't care what the lady at the store called it. You just 'slip' into something else!)
BTW the part about the neighbor is true.
Mike
