The best case scenario is a movie devoid of humans featuring the Space Jockeys and the mission that led one to crash on the planet that sets Alien in motion. If there are humans in a prequel to Alien, I won't be happy. I'm actually a big fan of Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection. I'm excited at the prospect of seeing Xenomorphs in forms not derived from human or bovine/canine hosts. The shape of the alien is derived in no small way from the host the chestburster develops inside. The alien that bursted from the Space Jockey would be like nothing we'd ever seen. I also wonder what the default form is. If I had to pick a director for the next Alien, I'd probably pick David Lynch.

Alien was good.

Aliens had that heart tugging saving the little kid bit that made you temporarily overlook some of the stupidity of the plot lines and the fact that in reality (or at least a logically constructed science fiction future) the Space Marines would kick ass.

Alien 3 went completely crazy into some weird AIDS metaphor.

Its been down hill since.

I have little hope for the prequel.

Rumor has it the script was leaked, and the movie is titled Alien Harvest, and does indeed deal with the Space Jockey race, and the native form of the Xenomorph species. Here's a link to said script. Beware, about half way in is a scene of explicit man-man rape, but well, this is the movie, if most of the internet is right. It's good enough to have stirred a lot of controversy. Who knows... The author, John Spaihts, is a pretty successful writer, so it's not likely to be simply fan fiction. Might just be one of many proposals. And if the other Alien movies were any clue, usually the final result is a hodgepodge of many script ideas - especially Alien 3.

I've only read a few movie scripts in my life, and only after I've seen the movie. I'm therefore not much of a judge of what a movie script should read like. But that is just very, very bad. I mean horrible.

It has no mass-market appeal whatsoever. The only people who will go see it are Alien fans. That base is shrinking to people in their 30s and above.

Thanks for the article. I'm a huge fan of the four noncrossover Alien films and am putting a great deal of hope into this movie. I really hope my linked script is an internet hoax. The only things I hope it keeps, in theory and not literally from the script, is showing what Xenomorphs were before they met humans, and some more info/maybe showing one of the space jockeys. I keep watching Alien to see if I think the corporation knew about the xenomorphs before the Nostromo encountered them, but it could go either way. For a while, I was dead set against humans being in a prequel at all, because I was certain that first contact came with Alien. Hmm... I can't wait.

ALIEN Prequel DEAD!!!

I dont know what to say...
The Prequel is dead, long live the new franchise.

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/blogs/heat-vision/foxs-alien-prequel-morphs-prometheus-72052

Fox has announced that instead of making a much-talked about Alien movie, the project has been reconfigured as an original sci-fi movie, titled Prometheus, with Scott still at the helm and with Noomi Rapace to star.

“While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” said Scott in a statement. “The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn't be more pleased to have found the singular tale I'd been searching for, and finally return to this genre that's so close to my heart.”

Well, realistically, this is probably the best thing for the dignity of the franchise, but a well made prequel would've satisfied a lot of my curiosities. I suppose some questions are best left unanswered - makes for a deeper universe.

Prometheus is on track & expected for June 2012. Footage was shown at ComicCon last July. Theres a facebook page too. Look in these links for the info. One of the creators of LOST is definitely writing the screenplay.

With Scott directing, Damon Lindelof and Jon Spaihts writing and Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace; Charlize Theron, Guy Pearce and Ben Foster in the cast, how can it go wrong?

A spoiler marrying Alien & BLaderunner

http://www.avpgalaxy.net/2012/02/25/guy-pearces-role-in-prometheus-revealed/

“When the first ‘Alien’ movie and ‘Blade Runner’ were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in ‘Blade Runner’, and Weyland-Yutani in ‘Alien’. They sent the Nostromo spaceship.

The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.“

Theres a clip of Guy Pearce in Prometheus on this site:

should we start avoiding spoilers?

Movie description from IMDB:
