Alexander Leathers

Hi Jeff, but although we don't know, what about if he paid for the alterations?

I've known Aero, AL and even ELC do repairs on jackets which weren't even made by them.

Really though, if the bloke ended up with the jacket he wanted that's a good thing surely.

Paid for or not, it's great.
No dog in any fight here. Just something I didn't even think about when I think of a "sale page" jacket. Good to know makers will do that!

Not all that long ago Aero did some alterations on one of their jackets I purchased direct from them about 3 years ago. Didn't charge me a dime! That also pleasantly surprised me.

Take off the tinfoil hat Smitty.

Actually Butte, like Jeff M I don't have a horse in this race. I like what both Aero and AL have to offer. I've currently got an Aero and am planning a jacket through AL at the moment.

I was always under the assumption based on your posts here that you disliked AL immensely. I certainly can't remember you posting a positive comment regarding them or their jackets. Buy hey, if I've got that wrong I apologise.

Yes with some people it ain't paranoia, someone really is out to get them...

I've bought from Aero for a few years now and more recently AL, and I've had very good experiences with AL this year...In fact like someone else above when I sent back an introductory sale item which didn't fit Amanda offered to make me another at the sale price. I don't imagine they would do be able to do that if they get their sales up anywhere near Aero's. If that ever happens. They were trying to attract loyalty and longer term custom I should think, and because Amanda remembered me from her time at Aero so knew I might be worth making an effort for. The same for the other member here who was offered this too I expect.

To go back to the beginning, if we can do that without reigniting a proxy war. It's interesting in the light of all that has been written here that Horween seems to have no problem with AL at all, and in Fred's correspondence with them on his thread write highly of one of their jackets which they say they had around the place for a while. They are clearly supplying them directly with CX steer and AL is not getting it from some circuitous route. I would imagine they're not supplying HH as well mainly because they don't have enough production capacity and are finding it hard to keep up with the vastly increased demand for it over recent years already.

I went to AL cause NO-ONE would make me a Redskin in my size.... period... end of story. I think they did a great job, for a fair price in good time. Would I have gone to different manufacturers, particularly on this side of the briney, of course... but this worked out well. As for the past, its in the courts... (figured it'd a been at least to trial by now) and it'll work itself out.

Errr... after he bought it... he asked them to. Don't know if they charged him "extra" but mebbe not.

When I asked about adding a couple inches to the sleeve I thought they would add another cuff to the end of the sleeve (which in hindsight I am grateful they did not do this heh). But they said they could rebuild the under part of the sleeve and then replace the outer cuff with a longer one so the alteration wouldn't be so noticeable. It cost £40 to have it all done.
I was after a replacement for the Golden Bear pea jacket that someone decided to give a better home to last winter (I left the jacket in a backpack on my front steps for less than five minutes and it was gone..) and it fits the bill pretty nice. I was hoping to channel some of the vibes from this Aero double breasted coassack jacket that Graemsay posted here - http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?68277-New-Buttoned-Aero-Leather - rather than having the fit of a traditional barnstormer coat.

Dont like 'em at all. You are correct.
Find anything in my last posts here that were anything other than curious about a practice I don't see as common (as many others agreed with).
I am surprised to see sale jackets altered. Almost very sale item I've bought in my life was "as is, no returns". If AL, Aero, etc offer this, then color me surprised. That's all.

I now own that Double Breasted... had the sleeves shortened at Johson Leathers out west. Jacket feels like armor (a good thing).

Started out at 12 degrees on the 25th when I toddled off to the salt mines. AL D1 held up well on the commute and my daily hour long constitutional. Even worked up a minor sweat. Cat in the grocery store said he was "lovin' that jacket man!" Cool beans all round.

Just noticed AL are now offering Horween horsehide. Looks like things must have cooled down between them.

Yes I've got a jacket on order in the CX Bison and just noticed that the FQHH is available now too. Decisions, decisions...

I don't think Horween really had a problem with them judging by the reply FredS got from them on his Horween leather thread.

The Chrome Tanned Fq Horse they are offering is completely different to the Chromexcel that Horween are famed for . This Chrome tanned horse is a lower grade product tanned from skins not deemed suitable for Chromexcel when being graded . Only the highest quality skins qualify for Chromexcel

Just pushed the button on a Lavant in Matte Horween CT Horsehide ( which I actually like better than the CXL ) ..... also got a CX Bison Detroit on Order ( both in Black ... I've got enough brown jackets) ...... the Horween Bison samples were STUNNING very grainy and really reminiscent of the Buffalo Aero made my Californian from in the early naughties, and much lighter in thickness than I thought it'd be.

Three Aero's and two Orvis leathers on Ebay to fund the change ...... till I get the new ones I'll be down to my last 13 leather jackets .... how will I get by :D

Having sampled both ... it has a nicer look and feel IMHO, especially the Matte version .... looks and feels like 10 year old CXL, which I really liked. Both CXL and any other horse is a waste product from Shell Butt production ... but WHAT a waste product to have :)

There are other makers who post slightly critical comments about their competitors products and leathers in dedicated threads, and they tend to get slagged off by certain members here. I wonder if your comment will attract the same amount of ire....

Incidentally I believe you sell jackets in this hide too.

not likely on this forum. have samples coming of the horween HH and steer they have currently, will compare when they arrive. can't wait to see it. could be a major jacket purge in my future.
