I grabbed a Montana jacket brown smooth steer off their sale page during the summer, but have only started wearing it. I had three inches added to the sleeves. As many other folks have expressed, Amanda was indeed excellent to deal with.

You bought a jacket from their sales page and they added three inches to the sleeves? How did that happen?

Well, it depends if they charged for the alteration or not. But adding new sleeves would certainly be quite pricey.

I bought a jacket from them in their introductory sale and Amanda was happy to get an inch taken off the sleeves. They posted it later the same day too. Adding to sleeves I don't really understand though. Maybe he just miswrote it?

Actually, I would find it odd that any maker would alter a sale item. Maybe they did. Just never heard of such a thing...

Why on earth not??!! So you could pay to have a full price jacket altered but not one which was part of a sale?

And actually hasn't Aero done small adjustments of stuff from their sale pages?

Historically, businesses place sale items as such to get rid of them quickly with no fuss.
How does someone get in front of the line for alterations when full price customers are buying jackets ahead of them? Maybe everyone does it, I just was unaware that it was an option.

Maybe he sent it back cause it was too short and they just made him a bigger one up and charged him the sale price?
They did that for me.

The waiting time might have something to do with it too.
I will say, if companies will do this, consider 1000 bananas thrown to us long-armed "apes" here!

Lol, sounds like a bad deal for them. Maybe I should do that too. A custom jacket for 250 quid that's usually 550 sounds too good to be true.

If somebody is willing to pay for alterations why on earth would a business turn them away, especially on a product that they produced?

Good on AL if they altered this guy's jacket and he ended up getting the fit he was after. Don't see how this can be construed as a bad thing.

To be honest this all sounds a little like the usual AL bashers having a crack at the company for doing something which if it was from any other company would be applauded as excellent customer service and going the extra mile.

Smithy, I don't know where you get the bashing vibe from. It seems that AL is doing alterations on sale items for free. I have never heard of anything like that. I am a guy who is frequently cursing his long arms because sale items never work for me. And now I hear that I can buy any ill-fitting sale item, send it back and get a custom replacement? Sounds good to me but I don't know how they can afford that.

Actually, doing alterations on "sale" jackets took me by surprise too.

Hi Jeff, but although we don't know, what about if he paid for the alterations?

I've known Aero, AL and even ELC do repairs on jackets which weren't even made by them.

Really though, if the bloke ended up with the jacket he wanted that's a good thing surely.

I might be wrong but it certainly seems that quite often whenever something by AL gets posted, there's a small cadre that always seem to try and put a negative spin on it.

I didn't get much sleep last night with my little one getting me out of bed far too early so maybe I'm delirious from sleep deprivation ;)

Lost Worlds does it as well. Its says they do "Alterations, where feasible avail. @ Extra Charge" at the top of their Sales page. And I'm sure Aero will add or subtract an inch off a sales item as well :D I don't see how that's strange to alter a sales item though [huh]

Alexander Leathers shortened my sale page Smooth Steer 4 pocket Roadster sleeves an inch for free also. Even sent the cut off leather. I have noticed they have shortened 1/4 inch as it has broken in. Very minimal.
