really? I don't wear skinny jeans - these are both 'straight' - but I was thinking some tighter more fitted looking jeans might be better for this jacket..

Personal choice, obviously. But 501's have rarely been straight. Apart from perhaps a pair of 1955's, they are all pretty tapered. If you like 'em (and lots do) then fair enough - but they ain't straight.

I was lucky enough to have been around in the 60's when new 501's/502's first became available in the UK. We avidly snapped them up, but within a year, we had discovered that most other US jeans were a better, wider, less baggy-arsed fit

Hey pauleway. As you may know the same pattern is used for the Arkansas and the Dakota. Normally i wear size 38s on account of my 38" chest, as was the case for the roadster I recently acquired which fits very well too. But for this one I kinda got the impression from Will that he thought the thickness of the kudu was a factor. When I tried on the one pictured on their site - it's a 42 - to my surprise it almost fit me. I'm just under 6,2 and all it needed was an extra inch of length to cover my belt - otherwise i would have had that one away there and then.

I think we can safely say you won't need to size down with this model! In my experience, ordering true to size will get you one that's quite a close fit. Maybe that's what you want? I guess the best thing to do here is email your specifics & fit questions and have Amanda get the info out of Will. Perhaps it'd help if you can send him a picture or two? I found he has quite a good eye for judging lengths etc. My advice for this jacket is don't mess around with the length and start adding loads as this is a short fitting jacket. IMO you want it just over your belt and no further. I also suggest don't bother with an inside pocket in the facing

Schitzo - Thanks for the info. I know the sleeve and back length I want, was just a little concerned with the chest area. Unlike you, I'm 5'7" but have a 42" chest. I will give Amanda the measurements and see what they say. Thank you for your advice, I appreciate it. Nice jacket BTW - enjoy!

Schizo, if you're looking for decent denim in London then I'd try Rivet and Hide in Fulham, or Son of a Stag down in Shoreditch. Via mail order there's Iron Heart, and Giles who runs the place is friends with Will at Alexander Leathers.

I also like Tender (their Trestle Shop has some interesting accessories) - the Good Hood Store carries them in London.

Schitz, that jacket will get even more interesting with age – well done.

Couple of things, though. You need to lose those "Crocs" right now. Not just when you read this message but two hours before: longer than that. Crocs are an abomination. Nothing more to say there.

And the cut of the 501s is also off. Lose those, too, and spend some money on some decent Ironhearts or similar Selvedge and your look will increase in quality five times.

But please burn those f***ing Crocs. And now.

I recommend getting 634s and have them tapered by "The denim doctor" who is in your area of the globe. They are too wide standard but can be slightly tapered for a perfect look. They might be straight, but feels almost like bootcut imho as they come out of the box.

have you guys seen the Big Lebowski? I would literally kill for some size 10 transparent jelly shoes alas after years spent on the look out for a pair I've now all but given up. I reckon they must have been specially made just for the film as nowhere ever has them in adult sizes

IH have alot of measures on all pants. I took a pair I liked and measured them and got the model that was closest to this. A tip that might or might not work

I'd be very surprised if Lee Coopers are still made in Britain... Haven't worn them in years, but last I did they were so much cheaper than the other brands they must have been offshored. Lee used to have an outlet shop near my folks' house (back in the days when they had a factory in Northern Ireland, 1981-2005ish, I think), but I never could wear them, the rise was so low. I always found hipster cut jeans (i.e. jeans cut with the waistband on the hips, below the natural waist) desperately uncomfortable.
