AL Roadster smooth vs CXL steer

I'm thinking about a black roadster, not sure which hide is more recommended. I have seen samples of warhawk horse (too stiff, otherwise nice finish), CXL bison (too much grain), and smooth steer (looks nice and its very pliable).

Any recommendations there? What is the CXL steer like?

Awesome ... And while this may be viewed as heresy on here .... It blows FQHH into the weeds on hand, grain, weight and drape IMHO.

What if I am telling that AL has a veg-tanned steer hide in brown atm, and the black one coming in few weeks?

Yes, the Veg tanned stuff is extremely nice. The up charge could not be reconciled in my mind, though.
