By the way, Elvisroe, that Cattleman looks great!

Thanks - it's been designated my new traveling/bush-bashing hat.

As for the trimming, I've not been game to attempt it on anything I've paid good money for yet - I lucked onto the cattleman cheap on ebay - but as Spats suggests there's some good info over on the conversion corral.

Getting a professional would no doubt be best but since there's no such thing down here in Oz (short of an expensive custom job from a milliner) I did it myself using a compass, scissors and sandpaper. The ribbon was tricky and I aim to redo it when I find some better product but it'll do for now...which probably means it's there forever!;)

Good luck and welcome to the lounge!

Green Fedora

That sweet green campdraft reminds me...

I came across a green Akubra Fedora recently in a very small size but really liked the hat! I saw it at the Rocks Hatters in Sydney which is a scary tourist trap but did have a few nice lids gathering dust on the top shelf. The poorly informed staff didn't speak english particularly well and were unable to answer my questions so I bailed pretty quickly.

Anyone ever seen one of these or know where to get one?
[huh]

Hats Direct is listing the Squatter in Willow Green as in stock. I almost bought one of those before I found the Campdraft at Everything Australian.

Thanks Spats,
After a lot of soul searching and reading posts here, I broke down this morning and ordered a Fed IV in the carbon grey. Maybe, if I really like it, I'll break down again and try the Camp Draft. That is if my wife doesn't break me first. At the last minute, I changed my mind and ordered the moonstone instead.

Moonstone Fed IV questions

Greetings,

Just ordered a Fed IV in moonstone from Hats Direct and rather than starting a new thread I thought I'd post my queries here.

1) What color is the standard ribbon on the moonstone Fed IV?

2) What size/thickness is the standard ribbon on the Fed IV?

I wish I was in the know when the Oz dollar was in the toilet; shipping was nearly a third of the total price. Ack.

I am of the instant gratification school, so waiting a week for my hat to arrive sucks donkey apples. :(

On the plus side, the HD personnel shaped my lid into a long oval for no charge so I should be able to wear it comfortably right away. When it arrives. In a week. Or more. Probably more with my current luck.

Donkey apples.

I hate waiting.

Everything Australian appears to have them in Fern Green, but they're subject to the DAW (Dreaded Akubra Wait).

Good tip thanks - for some reason I've never checked out that site. Great prices though!

Trying....to....resist......

1) Black, just like in the photo on their website.
2) I don't have mine with me, but I'd say about 16-19 ligne.

You can look at mine until yours arrives: ;)

Looks great !

By the way. with the U.S. dollar strong against the Australian dollar as it is now, 1.00 AUD = .832900 USD right now, it is time to order the Akubra you've had your heart set on.

My Campdraft in silver belly is in the works.

Help with a Slouch hat please?

So I got this hat I thought was an Akubra Slouch hat but it doesn't seem to meet the criteria I see in the on-line descriptions. The hat is Khaki - tan, not the greenish olive-drab I see in the photos. There is a Liner and the descriptions all say "un-lined." It is marked size 7 3/8 with no cm marking at all. BTW it has shrunk a bit and isn't a bad fit on my 7 3/16 LO head.

So have I got some kind of a fake? Or is this just some non-catalog version?

Couldn't get photos with it on my head, fortunate for you folks.

It really is this color.

With a lining that assures me it is an Akubra Imperial Quality

And the sweatband label which also assures me it is an Akubra.

Gday all,

I posted these pics in the "new hat" thread before I found this akubra specific one. My apologies to those who have viewed these shots there, but surely they belong here?

Im very glad to see that our great aussie product is such a hit overseas with fans of great hats.

Firstly, my new "everyday" going to work or town hat; an Akubra CEO in fawn green. Its very comfortable and goes with just about anything. Im wearing it in my profile pic.

Next up is my Akubra Bogart. This is my dress hat and the one that I wear when I play gigs or when I am wearing a suit.

The there are my "country hats". Closests to the camera is an Akubra coober Pedy, which is my country dress hat. Next to it is an Akubra Arena that i have had for over 20 years. Its lost a lot of shape and is now pretty much a working around the farm hat. On the end is the Akubra Cattleman. Its my general working hat, and I go through one of those every second year or so. Ive got a good collection of dead ones.

Lastly, a pic of where they live. My hats reside on my hall stand that was built by my great great uncle in the early 1920's as a gift to my great grandfather on his wedding day.

Im pretty lucky not to have to go through the "Akubra Wait", given that I live within walking distance of the Hattery in Katoomba, but I had to wait 31 years to import my wife from Pittsburgh PA, so I s'pose it evens out. :p

Just placed an order with Everything Australian for my first Akubra, a Campdraft in silverbelly, size 62. Now, the waiting game. :(

Haven't seen a new PB in the Raiders specs at all yet. Do you have a new PB Raiders or one of the old supertall versions?
