Man this looks great. You really wear this style well. What is your hat size? With my small head I could never pull this wide brim off - but you're killing it. Congrats on a great hat!

Why thanks, LC. You have a good eye. Lol. Hah!

I wear a 23“ or 58.4 cm. If you put a conformater on my head and tell me I'm wrong I will walk out. Lol

My only custom hat is a Gannon size 58.5, 5.75 crown - fits tilted left or right or center and can hunker down in the wind. My skull has a little peak that prevents me from wearing a plain center crease. Except this Sombrero. It was 6 in. front and back, and I'm not a drummer so I didn't even bother with a photo.

And then there's my history of the skin CA ; and lately medication for rosacea which makes me prone to sunburn.

I need wide brims and tall crowns to keep me cool.

And hopefully not scare the neighbors

For as good as these wide brims look on you, your head is not as big as I would have expected. Must be your personality giving it the extra panache!

After three decades in the tropics and sub-tropics, my Scottish hide has grown allergic to the sun. The derma told me it's not too bad, but I definitely don't want to make it any worse.

I'd go for a sombrero but wide brims just don't look good on me - 2-3/4 is about as wide as I can go and even that looks a little awkward to my eye.

My Akubra Cow boss... bought on Ebay for $65

I reshaped it, brim might need some tweaking. It came without a band so I added one.

My Springer, Daisy, can see me better while she's getting on the whistle. Hah!

Here is the insides.

It came with a floppy brim and a cattleman crease in the crown, I relocked it to a more Riverina blocking. I also stiffened it a lot, and gave it a deeper cleaning.

I love this hat now.
Ive got an Akubra "Sidewinder" with the same red liner that Id never seen before. The sweatband embossing on one side has the embossed Akubra logo, and the other side says " Made in Austrailia exclusively for Outback Trading Company" . Ive always wondered if the red liner was something like a customer order like that, or if it may have just been an Australian market hat. Over time Ive found a few nice Akubras from Salvation Army Stores from Australia in odd colors , shapes and model names that Ive never seen over here ( i have Red, Green liner on Imperial felt ) All my other Akubras are either a White or goldish tint to the liners

Anyone have knowledge on this ( or even a good guess?) lol

Love this thread.

My question:

I own 2 Akubra Cattleman, and my Cow boss but I'm having such a hard time deciding which hat I'd like as my dress hat.

Akubra Campdraft (with a cattleman crown bush)
Banjo Patterson
Or maybe even the Stylemaster

I have a big head, so I wonder what yall would say looks best from your experience? Thank you

Here's my Fawn Cattleman, my everyday hat. Also have in Bran but it's my nicer one for special occasions at this point.

I think if you’re going for a “dress” look, the campdraft or the stylemaster are perhaps the hats that would lend themselves to that look slightly more than the Banjo Patterson. Having said that, I have seen all 3 of these hats worn in a dress style, so it’s more down to your personal preference.

People in suits have rocked a riverina, bogans have rocked a campdraft.

This thread covers the Campdraft verse Stylemaster for dress: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/campdraft-vs-stylemaster-for-dress-wear.36768/

Thank you for answering.

I'm also wondering what is best for a big head? I wear a size 60, and usually need to adjust the crown to fit my giant pointy melon.

I like the Banjo Patterson for the felt quality, but really like the Campdraft for its nice fedora brim

As a 62/63cm wearer myself, I have a snowy river I’ve had to adjust to fit my head (looks slightly different to the pictures, but not enough to offend) I’ve also have an open crown slouch hat which I’ve reshaped. I found that easier as it has the “blank canvas” effect.

The fur quality is covered elsewhere on this forum: https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/akubra-imperial-quality.69049/

Another factor may be the colours available. Have you considered the squatter?

All three hats you’ve mentioned are fine hats and would make a lovely addition to any collection.

Always had a soft spot for the Banjo Patterson, but the Campdraft was the hat I was closest to buying before I found my Snowy river.

I don’t have a Banjo Patterson, but for dressiness, I would say the Stylemaster. I think the wider ribbon places it a touch above the Campdraft, though of the two, I enjoy wearing my Campdraft more.

For dressing up a tad I have a good color selection of Stylemasters , a Bogart, and a trimmed brim Lightning Ridge (2-1/2") for my favorite "more than casual" Akubras. I DO love my Banjo, and eventually Ill prob have a Campdraft or two. For dressier hats Ive always preferred the Heritage felt hats. To my kid brain, a dressier hat always has a grosgrain ribbon instead of a leather or woven/ braided band. Ribbon width doesnt relegate a hat to only dress or only casual... narrow or wider ribbon is just a personal preference and can go a long way to camouflage a too tall or too short crown.

The correct answer to "which one" is to have several to choose from in the morning
