The current Campdraft is listed at having a 5 1/2 inch open crown (I think they used to be taller). I’m not sure you have enough crown for a Gus, but why not give it a try?

Might get away with a modified 'Tom Horn" crease....which is a milder version of the Gus bash.

I got mine from the Hattery back in May so I haven't worn it much or creased it yet. The brim seems to have a bit more flange than in the past, maybe more like an OR. And using a tee square my crown measures 5-3/4" open.

Misc. Ramblings:
I finally pulled the trigger on 2 more CDs--Black and Bluegrass Green. Don't tell my wife.
I'm considering how to crease them. Here's a question; If I were to put a soft crease w/o steam or water and each time after wearing I returned it to open crown, either immediately or over time would the crease lines show?
I'm thinking of creasing one (black) as a Gus/Montana like the picture I will post (but w/o the " fru fru" of the bandana, etc. Any comments/suggestions on doing that? View attachment 356113

I was advised try members of the lounge to use steam or distilled water. Apparently, if you don’t, there is a high likelihood of spidering, that will remain when you put it back to open crown. I haven’t tried it (I used steam), but that’s the advice I got.

As felt is made up of thousands of hairs, as you bend and mould them, they will become used to new shapes, and returning to the old open crown is never without issues left from the previous attempts to change the shape. Of course the open down 'memory' is the strongest, as the mold and heat used at the factory has a bigger effect, but this also depends on the type of hair, and its intrinsic qualities. The less force and heat used is easier to return to a previous form, but here again the malleability of the felt is a key factor. The colors too are important, as the oils and density changes with manipulation. Its all a case by case I'd say...

I received the Sandtone Fawn CP last week and it arrived in 5 days, perfect cond, from Aus. Love the color and the fit is perfect. My wife also loves it and wants one now. I opted for the Aus purchase instead of domestic because I didn't want the ribbon band that comes on the domestic CPs and preferred the Kangaroo leather and opal.
My wife is preferring the Khaki color.

Now having five of their models, this one is the gem of my small collection.The only downside is that it's nearly 100 degrees outside these days....am really looking forward to October!

Newbie here with a question re the colour Bluegrass Green on the Stylemaster. I’ve scoured the forum, found a short discussion but could not find a clear answer. Well, other than - it changes; it doesn’t change; it’s green but maybe khaki or with a brown tint. Please accept my apologies if there actually is a description - I just couldn’t locate it.

The photos/videos I’ve seen on websites nearly all look like different in colour from each other, sometimes quite markedly. I’m guessing the photographers have not white balanced the photo/video or it’s been mucked up somehow afterwards.

What is it close to? Does the perceived colour change with difference in the quality of light?

My experience is with the same color (Bluegrass Green) but the Campdraft model as opposed to a Stylemaster. I too was puzzled about what I read about the color in this forum, prior to biting the bullet and placing my order. Well, let me tell you that my hat is green. Not a bright green, but a rather subdued, rich forest green. In the brightest Pacific NW sunlight it reminds me a bit of British Racing Green. I was a bit surprised when I opened the box, but I love the color now. I find it to be extremely versatile and comfortable to wear.

I don't have a Stylemaster, but my Bluegrass Green Campdraft is pretty close. First, Akubra's Bluegrass Green is most definitely green. Occasionally I have seen the slightest blueish tint depending upon the lighting, but even then it's far more green than blue. I think the name is what confuses people--"Blue"grass Green. Another photo won't convince you, but it won't hurt either:

Bluegrass Green, Taupe Fawn, Silverbelly. As you can see, that towel has more blue in it than the hat.

Felt is notoriously difficult to accurately photograph. It also does appear to change colors in varying light; in my experience, it does this much more than other materials. Felt also can vary one dye lot to the next. Looking forward to seeing your photos of your hat when it arrives.

From what I've heard and read, Stetson's Silverbelly has a more silver/grey tone while Akubra's is more like an off-white. And yeah, I like the Taupe Fawn almost as much as the Bluegrass Green.

I have an old Camp Draft in bluegrass green and this photo is as close to an exact color match as I've ever seen. It looks exactly like the color here. There's nothing blue about it....it's a gentle green. My wife says it's her favorite hat color. So that's good enough for me!

What's up with the Akubra sweatbands? All my other hats have sweatbands that perfectly contour the inner perimeter of the hats. These seem to bunch up, or is it that these were made into a long oval have anything to do with it?
BTW, why the need for a liner, other than to make the inside look finished? Do they serve a purpose?

Hmm...I don’t think any of the sweatbands on my Akubras did that. I’ve read that in Australia a lot of the working hats Akubra makes have no liners. I’m sure on a town hat, like the Adventurer, would have a liner. I would imagine a liner keeps the hat from getting grungy from someone’s greasy sweaty head!

My Akubra sweatbands do no bunch up like that. That looks like someone might have put a filler material under the band at one time...like felt strips.
