My beloved Akubra Boss of the Plains. My favorite hat. I rarely wear it because I cant replace it. If I could go back in time to 2012 I'd buy 10 of these easy. They stopped making them and I about cried. These were great hats. Nice thin felt that isn't stiff and they even came with an open crown. I bought this and a Silver Spur which is almost the same hat. I wore the Silver Spur daily for years and kept this hat nice.

I have a black Down Under I feel the same way about. Gave it hell for a few years until I found out it can’t be replaced. Now it sits unused. Could always replace it with custom but it’s just not the same.
I feel your pain.

...I have been trying to rescue domesticated birds that have gotten out in the wild. In doing so I have come across some fantastic feathers I have started to collect on my hat. I am thinking I need to pump the brakes a bit before it gets too much.

Have a great day everyone

I've found some neat feathers as well... some I believe to be hawk or owl feathers... they are a protected species, and I believe using these found feathers in my hats might be violation of several federal laws.

I like your feather look.

We have some laws against the sale of exotic feathers but nothing against using them personally. I have a Cockatiel, Indian Ringneck and budgies. I have a growing collection of fancy feathers with every molting season they do.

Good looking family. I particularly like that they aren’t all shaped the same; I love diversity.
I say I like diversity because I tend to get bored easily, but my actions speak otherwise because my three Fed IVs are shaped the same, my three Campdrafts are shaped the same, both of my Hamptons are shaped the same...they're different colors though...

Nice collection. Is it me or are there two sombreros in the mix?
Johnny

Just one sombrero.

Not shown is a black Down Under with a tan leather band, size 58. It always wants to be round and I’m a bit long oval. I could send it to you for whatever shipping costs if you’re interested.
I’m in the process of moving, but I’ll try to send a pic later.

Well now, the crowns are all shaped nearly identical so there isnt a whole lot of diversity there. I've tried other bashes but I always go back to my standard pinched telescope type bash.

I love my black down under with the tan band. I would love a second one unfortunately I am a large 59 to small 60 and that would just be way to small for me.... unless I stretched it.... please post some pictures to tempt me.

Down under. You can see the wear on the front of the sweatband where it tries to go round and I keep insisting it be long oval. Could use a quick brushing as well.

Nice looking Down Under.
I've found that if I buy em big enough, then steam the long oval shape into them, then wear them loose until they shrink up, you dont have to fight that long oval fight. I I the struggle well, I'm an long egg oval. Probably extra long.

My one complaint with Akubra is that the sizing is wildly erratic. Replacing the sweat band and a bit of steam would solve the problem here, just never got around to it.

Yes, my only complaint as well and it varies from different dealers. I've found that Everything Australian is fairly consistently large, Hats Direct is also but not as consistent and David Morgan tends to run on the small size. That's just my experience.

That’s because if you compare the size guides of the Australian dealers to David Morgan’s Akubras, David Morgan hats are 1/4 inch smaller for the same size. It’s really weird.
