Hey brothers, what is the difference besides the cost of the
R.M. Williams 'RM Hat' By Akubra - Mid Brown
&
Campdraft Deluxe (Open Crown) Cedar Brown

I want the widest brim and darkest color.

I believe Tommyk posted a pic of the two side by side. The cedar brown was slightly darker if I remember correctly. I actually have a cedar brown in the mail now.

I was mistaken apparently it was a mid brown campdraft he sat next to the RM.

The RM looks nice, the brim appears bigger in the comparison photo. I like how the crown shape has a different look from the CD

Anyone here seen an Avalon in Tempest? I’m kind of interested in one but I’m having a hard time telling exactly what the color is like...

The Bushman is a nice hat. But I’m pretty well covered (no pun intended) with wider brimmed hats at the moment.

It’s interesting that the Bushman has a lower crown and wider brim than the Campdraft, and the DM Adventurer has a lower crown and wider brim than the Fed IV. Obviously someone at David Morgan likes that type of proportion.
As an owner of the Adventurer in Moonshine and the Bushman in Tan....both I wear often but they are very different presentations.
The Bushman (I made the crease telescope with small, wide spaced dents) I wear everyday morning and evening on dogs walks, I found that it keeps the head warmer (IMHO), this hat also gets rain soaked regulary. When this happens, I use a Sham-Wow to soak up most of the water and then spend 5 min. or so and curl the brim by hand to keep it from flattening.
Now the Adventurer (did not have DM cease it, I didn't want the Indy crease, so I gave it a diamond crown look and long big dents than what DM usually provides) I have played with this one flattening the Aussy Swoop with an iron, hat jack installed and flat surface. It worked but the dimensional brim just did not look good sticking straight out and the brim functionality of keeping rain off the face and sunshine out of the eyes was diminished somewhat. This did opened up the brim to establish a more gentle curve front to back.
Attached pics of the Bushman...love this hats utility stockman look. Showing Bushman with the crown height on 4"
Attached pics of Adventurer pre-flattening and post flattening. As you can see I have removed most of the swoop. Pics also shows how the moonshine felt reflects sun from a low angle in Fall here in the PNW. Pre Pics show moonshine actual color.

^ Thank you for posting pics of your DM Adventurer and the work you performed on the brim! I've been looking at that hat and wondering if the Aussie swoop of the brim could be tamed somewhat. I like the look of your hat after you made the curve a lot more gentle. Now I'm interested in taking-on the challenge myself.

I'm digging your Bushman too. I have two in my rotation, and I love them.

I'd like to get my Stylemaster's to have that deep swoop in the front without sacrificing my ability to also wear the hat with the brim up.

I've posted this one in the "Show us your Stingy Brims" thread for obvious reasons, but forgot to post it here. I took advantage of Hats Direct/The Hattery's "free shipping worldwide" offer last month by ordering an Akubra Hampton in Cedar Brown:

J8Jobcp.jpg

I was hoping the crown would be a little taller than it appeared to be in photos but, as I expected, I had to re-crease it because the Hampton comes from Akubra with a Center Dent and even on hats with taller crowns like my Fed IVs and Campdrafts I can't wear a Center Dent because my head pushes it out. So I kept it simple and gave my new Hampton a Teardrop Crease and tightened the pinch a little:

The crown was surprisingly soft and malleable, especially for an Akubra; they must have forgotten to use stiffener on this one. But the brim snaps easily in front and holds it's shape, so... *shrug* Not a bad little hat.

Oh, and a nice little hand-written note was included: "Thank you for the order. Enjoy wearing this funky hat. Best, Trudi & Naomi" I love the service we get from The Hattery.

I’m not sure if I should post this here or in Ask a Question. It’s Akubra related so I figured this is a good place to ask. I’m considering purchasing an Akubra Sydney from David Morgan. I like the fact that the Sydney has a raw edge brim. Seeing this would be my first purchase of a higher end hat my question is in regards to size. I’m a XL, 60 or 7 1/2 and I’ve read in different threads about Akubra‘a shrinking to fit or conform to you head. Should I order a 61 or a 60 to account for shrinkage?
Thanks,
Steven

There is many a thread in the Lounge debating this topic and there is a breadth of opinion but if there is anything approaching a consensus is that they do shrink. I hate a hat too tight, gives me headaches so I always err on the side of bigger. It is easier to shim a hat smaller than it is to stretch it. I would give David Morgan a phone call and discuss with them if you are uncertain.
