I have a question on Akubra hats order from HatsDirect.com and/or the Hattery.com, I live in Illinois and what shipping should I choose the "Standard Shipping" or the "EMS Courier"? What do you guys do? Also on the prices there is the US $$ and the AUD $$ which will I have to pay?

I ordered from australiangear.com and used standard shipping. It got to me in about 15 days. The listing in AUD and USD is simply the exchange rate between the two currencies. You'd be paying the USD listed amount.

It just depends on how soon you want the hat. I believe the timeframes listed on the Hats Direct website are pretty accurate.

I think you are charged in Australian dollars. The website shows the US dollar conversion for the hats but not for shipping, as I recall, but that's just for ease of reference.

I'd email them with your questions about both the shipping and the currency. They are very responsive.

Today I received The Hampton. The pictures online make it look like a tiny trilby shaped hat. I was pleasantly surprised to open up the box and find a respectable sized brim on this baby. Somewhere between not too short and not to wide...just nice. Lucky for me since I have it coming in fern green and beaver brown. I will get TONS of use out of this model since it looks good with the brim UP all the way around.

That's my exact thought with the Hampton. I got mine just last week, and am loving it so far. You described the brim perfectly...not too short, and not too wide...

When I got this Fed Deluxe in, I went for random. Just pinched it and put it on. Snapped a pic.

I had in mind that it would look like one of your 50's OR's that looks literally bashed and thrown on the head!!!

But with the thick felt, even with a half hazard effort of creasing, it still almost looks blocked!! No way you could put a ripple in it!
Other than than the small imperfections I can notice and the center dent not exactly straight, it looks almost blocked!

But, I know I put it in and that's what matters to me. And I figure over time it'll look like hats of old.... Maybe? Haha

I did the same thing with all of my new Akubras when I got them. I really like the way Anthony/Moon creases his hats, i.e. obviously done by hand with the hard-earned imperfections intact, but brand new felt just won't do that. So I creased them and wear them, and I figure they'll earn their scars eventually.

You'll pay the AUD amount. That is what they will send to the credit card company. The balance you see when you get your statement will be based on the exchange rate at the moment the credit card company makes the exchange. Their website is just giving you their best estimate based on the rate they're aware of when you select to see the price in USD.

I've ordered 2 from hats direct. Always used the least xpensive shipping. Never a prob. As motorcyclist said, you'll pay USD which will be nicely LESS then the AUD price.

Ordered my first Federation iv (standard) hat yesterday. I got it in the Carbon Grey. The order process went very smooth and I was surprised at how fast it was shipped out. I order it in the afternoon and by early evening got an email letting me know it was shipped. I used standard shipping, as I’m not in a hurry for it.

Since I’m new to the hat world we’ll see how my bash skills are, should make for an interesting look doing it for the first time. I will most defiantly be looking at past threads on how to bash a hat.

Thank you Gents! The dark brown Fed IV is a center dent, and the rest are teardrops. It wasn't intentional, but I've clearly achieved the same look on all of 'em. Wonderful hats, these Akubras!
