Does anyone have any info on Akubra's "Burnt Oak" ?

I'd venture to say that Burnt Oak and Regency Fawn are one and the same. The Morgan color is under a "natural" lighting while the Hats Direct is in flash. Knowing how natural/flash lighting changes color, I'd say they're about the same.

This might sound odd, but you actually look like a young Harrison Ford here. I think it's mostly in your eye shape, but the stubble sure helps.

I think it's mostly the schnauze, but I'll take it where I can get it. Too bad I'm missing the chin (with or without scar).

How do you think the Leisure Time will take to the rain? Living in the city, I don't see myself wearing that wide a brim for another reason.

I've seen one picture on the lounge of the burnt oak, but the lighting was a little off. I've seen dozens of Akubras in regency fawn on image search, so I'm not totally sure they're the same color. From what I can tell, burnt oak seems to have more of a reddish hue, but I had posted in hopes that someone who owned a hat in either of these colors would chime in. I seem to have gotten overrun by that uncanny doppleganger of Harrison Ford, but that's okay. lol

Until this thread, I thought Akubras were all Cowboy-type hats. Drover-type?

This is my Akubra Leisure Time, which was a gift/souvenir from Australia once upon a time, and rarely gets to leave my closet. Still, I like it.

What a great hat! I can't believe you don't wear that more often.

Pick one; wear it; trim it; whatever. The Squatter's not going anywhere. (Let's hope.)

Exactly...that's what's so damn hard. It can essentially be any hat I want it to be, the only thing that stays permanent is the color...
Oh well, when I've made my decision, I'll keep y'all updated. I can't wait to have a new Akubra to post on this thread.

Oh yeah, here's the Squatter after trimming off the bound edge. I may cut off more later.

EDIT: I have further trimmed the brim again. What was once a 3"x 2.875" brim is now a 2.5"x 2.375" brim, and I love it. It looks very "smart" now and is unmistakeably a fedora (some would call the Squatter an outback hat). I have also instituted a half-butt Hollywood curl in there, here are my results:

I'm quite proud of myself, as I took this Squatter, tortured it, and made it MINE!

Turns out HatsDirect only has one glen grey Campdraft left in my size, but they also have a Taupe Fawn Campdraft of the same measurements. Damn! The great debate rages onward. If I ever do make a decision, expect to see some pics.

I've got a question, is the ribbon on the moonstone Stylemaster (sold through HatsDirect) actually black, or a dark grey? Looking at the picture, and judging by the lighting, it's a bit difficult for me to tell for sure. I just wanted to ask if anyone could confirm the actual color of a moonstone's ribbon. Thanks.

Akubra Colors

Hey,

Does anyone have a pretty good selection of Akubra colors ...?

Most retailers sites don't show all of the colors and I don't want to choose, e.g., one of their many green colors and have no idea what it's going to look like.

Alternatively, do you know of a website that does a good job of showing the various colors ...?

Thanks, and a tip o' the hat to ya' ..

Willie :(

I got a Dark Brown FedIV, a Carbon Grey Fedora, and a Willow Green Squatter:

After looking back and forth at each hat and photo, I'd say that these three pictures best represent the color of each. Note, however, than simply through the intricacies of photography, the true color of each of these hats is just a tad richer than the color displayed. My camera tends to slightly wash out the color of the hat. Honestly, though, you can't really go wrong with Akubra, as long as you know what you want.

As for websites that accurately show the colors...you're not really gonna find any. The website with the closest approximation to the colors that I've been able to find is DavidMorgan.

This question was asked on one of the Stylemaster threads (I think...). It was stated to be, and I quote, "unequivocally black."

Thank you. It only my third hat and my first ever attempt at modification, and it's always encouraging and reassuring to know that I didn't botch the thing. It makes me at least less wary of the wider-brimmed hats...

Looks good, makes me want one.

How do you like it versus the Squatter?

Thank you. The fit is better (the Squatter has a more round oval block), and I like the brim size and crown size better. I also like the Silverbelly color better; more versatile than the taupe fawn my Squatter's in.

More oval than the Squatter? I didn't even know the crown on the Squatter was considered round!

Well, that's encouraging. HatsDirect has only one Glen Grey Campdraft left in my size, but they also have Taupe Fawn's a-plenty. The "limited" factor of the grey is drawing me in, but the Taupe's a good color. Honestly, though, I think the grey will look better on me, and since I've the cut-down Squatter in "earth tone" position, I'm debating whether or not I'd like another earth tone hat or a "shade-of-grey" one. It's tearing me up...oh well.

That's Silverbelly? It might be the lighting, but it looks very, very...peachy, salmon, sand...something like that. I heard the Silverbelly wasn't really "silver", but damn!
