I think I would like the cedar brown Campdraft a little more if it had a lighter colored golden brown ribbon and binding instead of the same brown color as the hat. Seems like it's too much of the same color. I love the darker binding and ribbon on the Silverbelly. Beautiful hat. I'm really, really tempted to get another while I can. I shouldn't though. But maybe.

I wish the Bushman didn’t have those grommets. I like those colors and the brim width, but those head holes piss me off.

I’m not a fan of them at all either. I avoided the Bushman for years because of those grommets and the lower than ideal crown height. After buying one I don’t even notice the grommets...and not just because I can’t see them when I’m wearing the hat. I even liked it enough to buy a second.

I'm torn between the Fed IV and the CD, I'd like the better side profiles of brim of the Fed with a nice binding like the CD but a decent ribbon, I dislike the skinny ribbon.

Vent holes I don't tend to notice as a lot of hats have them down here, though I bet they do stuff all for heat 'n humidity just 1/2 or 3.

If you can, get both. Eventually I did, too.

I was afraid that Akubra might drop this model so jumped on a good deal from The Hattery.

Nothing new and to be honest I was sitting at the computer bored, looked over and thought as much as I love that Hampton it's always been a bit short in the crown for my noggin with a center crease/bash. Didn't really want to change it and had resisted thus far but I always pop the crease out when pulling it down on my head.

Changed it to teardrop and tightened the pinch, it fits better now but is a shame as just about all my hats have a similar bash. I think I need an excuse to get some lids with a taller crown and maybe a little room upstairs.

Edit: and no before someone complains it's sitting on it's brim it's not lol. It's on a hat stand just the pictures are from above.

Thanks, Ryan. At 6.7 inches, that’s a lot of crown to leave open. I don’t think I have the confidence to pull that off.
I agree with Ryan 'n think you wore it well open also, though I do prefer the bash just in my own taste preferences, only thing I don't like about this hat myself is the band, again personal choice.

Yeah, the band isn’t my favorite either. Some are much worse with multiple colors, high contrast, and long hairs that shed. A band replacement is a simple thing if I decide to go that route.

Keeping it open crown was never an option. When I first put it on my wife took photos so she could send them to our adult kids so everyone could share in a good laugh. At least I’m good for something. :)

Well you know what they say about a "Happy Wife" lol, but I honestly didn't think it looked bad. Prolly more just it's not a look often seen these days, so it's unusual. I don't look good with any dome or open shapes and avoid curled up brims also, but more about how I see myself looking in them.

I have a hard time even just wearing a brim up, my wife laughs and call me "The Sheik of Scrubby Creek" which some may not know (or may) was a Chad Morgan character 'n song.

That's the color they call Cruiser Grey, isn't it? Never seems to photograph as the same shade of grey twice.

Ok my hat acquisition syndrome kicked in and I blame you guys for posting all these new Akubra pics. Hats Direct has some hats on sale a little and some of them say discontinued style like the heritage campdrafts. So I ordered that moonstone campdraft I have coveted for quite a while. They were out of size 58 so I ordered a 59. Anyone know what is up with the discontinued lines? Is that an Akubra decision or is it Hats Direct changing up their inventory? Are new colors coming in heritage campdrafts or are they toast? (edit: I looked at the previous page and saw there were some postings about the discontinued lines that I missed earlier in the week.)

I think it's more likely due to the current global situation and it's roll on effect. I'm sure sales numbers have dropped and they most likely have restricted working conditions as well to contend with.

A decent chunk of Akubra sales would be through or because of tourism which is not happening atm. And there's a lot less people outdoors etc. The same goes for these hat stores and what it's doing to them. So I think you'll find it's both Akubra & the Reseller/s are just facing tough times.

I think their bread 'n butters models will still be made etc, who knows if they will produce these models again at some point later on or not. They may quite well bring them back if there's enough demand, but they may also be gone for good.

Some of these models Akubra only makes for select stores and if their sales are down it's hard for the store to order large bulk lots of custom hats.

Well I figure that's a decent solution, I'm actually thinking about getting 3 more Akubra's now lol. Well 2 as I did just buy one of them, a CD in bluegrass green which I think might show up tomorrow. I've never had a green hat before, always avoided them but I think the colour is interesting and should be very serviceable.

I think the other will maybe be the CD heritage in silver belly and then a Fed IV in the darker of the 2 browns but I might change it a bit and put a trim on the brim and a matching new ribbon in a lighter contrasting colour.

My understanding is that discontinued means the factory is no longer making them (for the foreseeable future). There were guys inquiring with Trudi at Hats Direct back in June about specific models, and she was already saying then not to bother with the order because they couldn’t fill it.

I've done my homework. ;) I have two Hamptons--Cedar Brown, and Black because Hats Direct had a sale--and they immediately became my second favorite Akubras (the Fed IV still holds the title). I'm still deciding which will be my next when the vendors south of the equator start shipping internationally again without padding the cost.
