They look like a fedora with the brim turned down. To my eye they always looked a little odd. Formal and casual at the same time. But it does look very distinctive.

Time to get out the Fall hiking hats. A black and a gray Stockman. I like these for hiking because the short, down turned brims give just enough protection for my ears and neck, but don't rub on my backpack. I re- bashed the gray one

Nine looking hats. I feel silly wearing most cowboy hats; however, the Akubra Cattleman and the Tableland are versatile hats that don't make me feel like a poser. I much prefer them to American cowboy hats for casual wear (I don't even own a horse).

This is one of the reasons I like the outback style hats over most of my Fedoras. With the curved brim I can wear my hat while driving without it hitting the headrest.

Thank you, my favorite hats are vintage western, even though I haven't owned a horse for many years. Western hats and outback hats are far more common than fedoras where I live. I like them both. I also wear a Camp draft very often and my wife has a Pastoralist. Akubras are hard to beat in the back country, in my opinion.

I have a gray Stockman. I did the brim similar to yours, but I can't get the side dents like I want them. I like how you have done the bash.

Thank you, I just soaked it down with distilled water from a spray bottle to get the crown open, then the center dent, and let it dry. I then steamed in the side dents.

I'll give that a try.

Moonstone is more of a light to medium blue gray. It is photographing more blueish due to the cold morning light inside my truck. My truck interior is gray also, photographing the same as the hat.
The true color of Akubra's Moonstone can be difficult to capture accurately in photographs, especially depending on the lighting conditions; brighter lighting seems to bring out the blue hue more than dimmer/subdued lighting.

Mine, on the right, in direct sunlight. On my monitor the color is quite accurate, gray with a hint of blue. In more subdued lighting the blue isn't as noticeable, and it appears to be a simple medium gray.

I like this hat! After seeing yours and Hurricane Jack's, I realize how much I like them. Looked at them on line last night. Another Akubra on my list!

I don't think you can go wrong with a Cattleman. It feels great and looks great.
