I've a LO and just received my third CD two weeks ago. All of my CD's have come in a bit on the large side, but after I stick that styrofoam strip under the band it fits perfectly: then, somewhere down the road I'll find I can get rid of the strip. I don't spend too much time or effort on the shaping: I just find the center point of the front of the crown, give the sides a pinch (not too sharp of a point at the front), and then press down with my finger down the center of the crown. After that I just give it a C-crown and see how it looks. I also give it a while before I give it any steam and squeeze in the indentations around the crown, as I've found that once I've done that, well, that's the way it'll stay. I've got to say, though, that these things seem to have minds of their own: one of my CD's is an up-brim all the way around, another has a kind of swoop to the brim in the front, and the new one seems to want a down-brim. I don't argue with them, and they all look fine. I've never noticed any problems because of my LO head.

The inconsistency you describe is unexpected. Thanks for the input. Any others?

Any Campdraft owners with LO noggins? How does the hat conform to this shape head? What happens to the brim? What is the recommended way to shape it and is there a reed that needs to be removed? Pics?

Thanks.

I too have a long oval head. I buy a size up and the hats usually conform well. I’ve also experienced some inconsistencies in fit and brim shape, but it wasn’t drastic.

I’ve come close to buying another Campdraft, but every time I do I think that for twice the money I can have a custom made that I’ll like better and that’s what I do. I haven’t bought a new Akubra, Stetson, etc. in a long time.

I resisted hard but finally I gave up and pulled the trigger ; bluegrass green from EA ;)

It required quite some steam for shaping the crown and deepening the brim flange to my liking but very happy overall with the result ! I love the color.

Also arrived just in time to fight with the elements and today's freezing rain ;)

Looks great, Panos. I think everyone needs an Akubra (or several) for bad weather days. You wear this Campdraft well.

Thank you Brent! That was the reason I went for it initially, it hurt every time my vintage ones were soaked... Not that I think it lacks in style though.

SO I received my Campdraft yesterday. And for starters that was some fast shipping from Down Under to the Southern tip of the Polar Ice Cap known as Wisconsin. I have to say that for what you pay for its par none a winner in my book. I was quite pleased overall with look, feel and the fit...had some concerns but was happy that I didn't go overly large with this one as I ordered my regular size and it fits like a glove. If it snugs on me some, I do have a stretcher at the ready. NOW for the fun part..I opted to go with a combination of styles with this one. A diamond crease with a hard front pinch and some side and rear pinches that I call 'coffin nails'. Only gripe I have with my chosen design is the slight 'bump' from the hard crease thats seen on the side profile, but I think that's more me being picky than anything..Anyway I've included several photos for your perusal. Perfect fedora choice for Wisconsin weather. The crease is way cool. Well done.

Here is a photo of my Camp drafts. I think the Camp Draft is a good value also!

Wow, terrific flock of Camp Drafts. Neat and tidy creases.

I too find the the bluegrass colored felt to be versatile. As others have noted, what the Camp Draft lacks in subtle elegance it trumps other modern hats in versatility and ability to fight inclement weather.

Best, Eric -

Thanks guys ! This is my first thin ribbon - wide brim fedora (at least for now ;) ) and I very much appreciate your positive comments :) Indeed, perfect for bad weather, it feels to be built like a tank (well compared to my vintage ones) but is also well made. In my understanding moonstone should also be a quite versatile color, but it's also a matter of taste and I am bias to green anyways ;)

What happens if it is removed?
I haven't been able to tell any real or substantial difference, and was surprised to learn there was a wire in there. It comes out easily as there's a ferrel where the wire ends meet at the seam in the sweatband and that's where I cut it and pulled it through. Hats are a bit subtle and there may be some advantages to having it in, or maybe the wire is a manufacturing aid that keeps the sweat "sprung" in the felt for sewing.

I've removed the wire from all 3 of my Stylemaster hats. I've noticed a bit more flexibility in the hats in conforming to my head.

The reed adds structure to the hat and prevents it from losing it's shape. While I don't see the advantage of removing one, it probably shouldn't cause too much harm. They used to make reedless sweatbands.
