I've also got a pretty slim face (and I reckon these full bodied crowns can look a bit funny on me). The reason I'm after a CD is to primarily make it into an OR style hat with a cattleman crease. Does anyone have any recommendations as to similar style hats with more tapered crowns that I can bash into an OR style?

For the record, I've got a long slim face. Think what you want. ;) :D :D

Hey,

Thanks for the speedy replies chaps. I realise I'm probably overthinking stuff, but it doesn't hurt to ask a few questions, right?

Plus it's tough when you don't have a hat shop nearby to ask Q's, etc.

I think the 60 and stick with the advice to size up is a safe bet.

Also, while I'm here, one other thing - the reservations that I have about the campdraft is the square-ness of the crown. Like I said I've got a Fed IV which I've read has a v similar shape crown, but I've also got a pretty slim face (and I reckon these full bodied crowns can look a bit funny on me). The reason I'm after a CD is to primarily make it into an OR style hat with a cattleman crease. Again, any tips would be great.

Cheers guys ;)

My Camp Draft is ceased with a cattleman . Better dimensions than a modern OR IMO . I don't think you'd want more taper even if your face is thin .

Hey guys,

Thanks again for the responses.

So it seems like there are two different approaches when buying a brand new hat: go one size up, wear it a lot and it should eventually shrink or get in the size that you actually are and try and stop it from shrinking too much over time.

I'll have a think about it. The more cautious side of me is saying to go one size up (better safe than sorry) and the other side is saying 'ah, just go for a 59!'.

Thanks - it's cleared things up for me a bit.

Ps - nice pics too ;)

Taupe is my favorite. I wear it almost every day. Silver Belly on the other hand, is a great color too. Why not get both. If you like the Camp Draft, both will end up getting a lot of wear.

Hey, yeah I think I'm veering more towards the taupe too. It seems a bit more compatible with different colour clothes and seasons (in my eyes anyway).

And yeah, I'm well accustomed to the 'get both' argument, but I know I can only justify (and afford) the one right now. But it's a distinct possibility that if all go's well with a taupe then I may be a checking out a silverbelly further on down the line....;)

Though I enjoy my Silverbelly very much, it doesn't get nearly the head time that my Bluegrass Green gets. The BGGCD is a much softer felt. Where I've got a diamond crease in both (well, the SB actually has more of a teardrop), I may have the Silverbelly recreased into a Cattleman's crease.

At some point I do plan to pick up the CD in Taupe as well as a CD Deluxe in Moonstone; though I've already got a Bushman, which is simalier to the CD only with an shorter crown, in Moonstone, so we'll see.

The Silverbelly Camp Draft often shows a bit of a light tan hue and is not really "Silver." The Taupe seems a better choice.

Hey Bob, yeah I think it's tough to tell actual colours when looking at pics on the net. I like the subtle tan colour of the silverbelly I've seen in some pics, but it also seems a little too light for me in others (but that's photos for you!). I guess it depends on the actual light of the environment too on how it looks in reality....

I'm preferring more in the tan direction at the mo and would love to see them both in real life if I could!

Although Hurricane Jack's Camp Draft in "Moonstone" is looking damn nice today.

he owns my favorite CD

My favorite as well.
Thank you guys for the nice compliment! It would be nice coming from anyone here on the Lounge, but especially from you two. Moonstone is probably my favorite CD color, getting a slight edge over my BGCD. My mid brown CD is the oldest one I have & probably ready for a "new do" when I have the time so I'll probably crease it like the MSCD. I still wish they would offer a Campdraft in Navy blue.

Yer welcome Jack. Thin ribbon Navy blue does sound sweet. I wouldn't hold my breath for a CD in that color. The Navy blue Borsalino Alessandria model has similar if not the exact same specs. Open crown as well.

I have an older Navy blue Alessandra wide ribbon but would like a CD. If the CD is a good seller they can't expect to keep selling the same 3-4 colors forever.
