I put steam on it last night and wore it all day today. My side bashes popped out a good bit.

Do I just put more steam on it tonight and set the sides again? Or can the top bash push it flat on the sides if done improperly? Meaning I'll have to fix the top?

Top looks great. Re steam closer to the steam source w just a LITTLE more heat and keep the steam on longer and re pinch. If that doesn't work mist the pinches w distilled water and pinch as desired. This protocol works for me. Good luck!

I'll second the use of distilled water. I don't have a way to adequately apply steam to my hats, so I've always used distilled water and it has worked out great so far. Spray the felt (don't be shy, Akubras like water) and let it soak in, then you should be able to shape the felt almost like clay. Set it aside to let it dry (never use heat to dry your hats faster), but check it once or twice while it's drying to make sure it's holding the shape you want.

I put a little more steam to it and going to see if that works today. If not, I'll try your way Zombie.
I'll have off tomorrow so I can give the hat ample time to dry. :)

Thanks for all the help. I can tell this morning that the sweat has shrunk a little already. Love this hat!!! :)

Speaking of breaking in a BGCD: mine just had its first shower.

I just ordered a BGGCD from Everything Australian last Sunday; their website stated it'll ship from their warehouse in 2 months. I keep coming back here to admire the others within this thread, but I think it's making the waiting even harder. I think I need to just not think about it. Yeah, like that's going to happen.

You have to keep yourself busy acquiring more hats while you wait for your hat. Take solace in thrift stores, eBay, estate sales, and flea markets. Keep yourself distracted buying hats and the BGGCD will be here in no time!

. . . . . Spray the felt (don't be shy, Akubras like water) . . . .
. . . . these hats like the abuse ... they can take it
I'm just chiming in to back these posts up. I've had a Camp Draft for ~8 years. I've steamed it, sprayed it with distilled water, worn it in the rain and the snow . . . and it just keeps bouncing back.

That's why they made the song lyric: the waiting is the hardest part.

Even if you shape with just distilled water, steam it after shaping to set the crease if just holding it over a boiling pot. The heat reactivates the shellac which stiffens as it cools.

So, I've worn my CD for about a week and think I might have pushed my crease down too far with the Tear Drop crease.

Can I push it back out and try another crease? Maybe a C or Diamond?

Also my side creases are not wanting to define.

I just used a little steam when I bashed it.
