Akubra Campdraft Stockist Question

Long time lurker first time poster! Lots of cool info on here.

I have recently gotten into the felt hat game with a new production Stratoliner and a 6X open road I got at the resistol factory in Garland. I have slowly realized that I greatly prefer the vintage style OR's a lot more than any of the new hats you can buy, but because I have such a large hat size I have struggled to find something I can fit. This brings me to the CD which is highly recommended on here. I have seen that it's only available in Australia, which isn't a problem, but are you guys aware of any stockist that will order or punch out a 60 to a long oval? Hats direct said they would send me the biggest one they have between 60 and 61 but I would rather just get a long oval one if possible? Any info you guys have would be excellent!

Regards,
Dan

I walked into Byrnie Utz here in Seattle and tried on a 60 (fawn) and 61cm (Silverbelly); while my typical hat size is a 60cm-7 1/2, I found the 60cm to be too tight. My head measures 59.5cm with tailors tape. I went with a 61, put some hat sizers on the sides (I'm also a long oval) and after a few days wear, I can say my CD fits really really nice.

You know when you have a Reg Oval , and need a Long Oval , if you use a smaller Hat Stretcher , steam the brim top side (that holds the oval shape) next to the Crown , the Oval will change . You may have to do it 1-3X , but it generally works . Here's a David Morgan Vid on it ...

I'm 7 3/8 (actually 58.5 , 23") , and I'm LO . I use a small Stretcher 6 3/4 (larger stretchers the width will be too wide) .

The Premier Stratoliner is nice , but a 6x Modern OR ... cardboard , and low Crown .

I am a 7 3/8 hat size so the first Akubra I bought was a 59. Pinched the front and back of my head something bad. Regular wear fixed that in a few weeks. After reading online I bought a 60 the next time and every one past that point. Just put the foam in the sweat band to synch it up and in a few weeks it shrunk down to size. Removing the foam as it decreases in size. You can e-mail the web pages to stretch it into a LO but in my opinion that’s not necessary.

The impression I get from reading here (I don't have a CD at present) is that they run a little large, and are expected to shrink to fit with wear.

(Why don't I have a CD? I ask myself that often. The answer is in 2 parts: It's too hot here now to even think about a felt hat; and I have a vintage silverbelly Stetson OR/Strat [it's not labeled with a model name] that works beautifully for me.)

I will add , I'm 58.5 cm , and buy 59 . They come huge , and shrink . Though maybe my head is shrinking o_O . But I add the foam , wear them , and normally in 2-3 weeks the foam comes out , they fit nice . Though my last 2 still need a little more shrinking , probably are true 59s now .

I wear a 61 in the Strat and Aubrey at the stetson factory stretched my 60 open road to a long oval I guess. The stratoliner fits a little big still, but I haven't worn it a lot. You guys think I should go 61 and let it shrink? Appreciate all the great advice guys!

My Premier Strat fits great until I get a Hat Cut , then its too Big (7 3/8) . The Taupe CD is getting there , the foam is out , but I have to be careful how it sits on my Head , or it will be on my ears . Not like brand new , but still a tad too big (59 cm) . Funny thing ... The Bushman (59 cm) snugged up pretty quick , but before I bashed it , it slid down . Now it takes a little stretch from time to time , but most of the older Hats do . I'm LO , I guess .

Too hot? I am in the GNO area (North Shore) and wear mine often.
