Hang tight. We may have a special edition coming in a softer felt in Silverbelly.

shhhhh......

Is that "shhhh" so other people won't find out, or "shhhh" so your wife won't find out?

My wife says the New Deal is that for every new hat I get she gets a diamond.

Great looking hat...I just ordered one from Australiadirect...They had my size in stock...Did your Campdraft come with an open crown? Why did you shape it with cold water instead of steam?
Best wishes and good wearing,
Chuck

Is the Campdraft the same as the Federation? Are they soft or stiff felt? My Akubra Flinders is stiff as a board. A tiny breeze sends it flying, not to mention that the sweat band doesn't absorb sweat!

The Federation starts out fairly stiff, but gets softer with wear. Mine is much softer now than when I first got it, after a relatively short time.

CasaBlancaChuck; The Campdraft does come open crowned. I usually shape with steam, but I recently experimented with a spray bottle of cold water on a beat-up hat. I found that I could exert greater control in hand shaping, and had less chance of damaging the hat. Faster, too. Plus, with the Campdraft, you'll find the felt gives easy when dry, but springs back too readily. The cold water helps it hold shape better. All a personal preference, though.

Mojave Jack; You'll find both the Campdraft and the Federations to be a little softer than most other Akubras, but stiffer than most fedoras when they are new. The CD starts out softer than the Fed, but I can't say how it breaks in because I haven't gotten to wear it much. If the Federation I have is anything to go by, my CD will soften up nicely.

RBH; According to Hats Direct, the color is called "Taupe Fawn". The regular Federation comes in a similar color.

Everybody else, thanks for the compliments. :)

It's not the Fed... it's the old Open Road.

In the Fed Deluxe felt... it would be much softer.
