I can't tell you how happy I have been with both Akubra and Hatsdirect.com. HD is all around a good group. There were some issues with my order on their end, but they got in touch with me and we had it all sorted out in short order.

The crown on this hat is really nice and strait for a production hat.

It looks like mine!!!
I'm very happy of my C-Draft, it is a very nice hat, I've got a lot of compliments from people.
How an our friend, here, say: " wear it in wealth and..." I don't remember...
Good luck!

Riccardo.

The hat looks great on you. I'm really glad that Akubra has taken on the original idea of the "Open Road", because you can only get a cattlemen crease from Stetson.

Okay, here is the deal from Hatsdirect.com on ordering a Campdraft:

email Ron and tell him you want a Campdraft and ask him where to go on the site to order it. He'll send you the standard options and a link to the super secret order page where you put in your "custom" order. I say custom as it's not always a stocking item (mine happened to be in there. HUZZAH!). So, it's not on the site, but they can get it.

Guys, I can't thank you enough for the high praise. Coming from you mugs, it means a lot. Just to think a few months ago I was just some Joe off the street with no hat to hold in my hand. Now, look at me, shaping hats from half way around the world. If your lurking out there thinking "Should I get a hat? Should I join this hat revolution?" The answer is yes. It's easy to shape hats, trust me. You look stylish and distinctive all in one fell swoop.

Viva la revoluci??n del sombrero!!

Kyle -- that is a great hat, wonderful color and you look good in it.

I, too, have a Campdraft in a gray color. I will have to mess around with the bashing and see if I can get it to look like yours.

I've been dunking all my hats in cold water, for quite some time. Whatever shape it dries in, the hat will hold. Only with really poor felt have I noticed any shrinking. I love the idea of standing in the rain. I'll have to try it! Great hat.

An outstanding hat. Makes the wait for my Silverbelly Campdraft that much more agonizing (you were lucky - your size/color must have been in-stock. Mine had to be made. The wait is. Driving. Me. Nuts. hehehe).

AG I can't wait to see your Silverbelly one either. I thought I might go that direction as well, but I was afraid it would be too white. We will know when your's arrives.

That's a great looking lid, Kyle. After checking out your photos, I'm now pretty convinced that the mid-brown Akubra "R.M." that I got a few weeks back is actually a Campdraft that just happened to come with a particular bash (although, happily, it was easily re-bashed). I'm really liking mine, and would definitely consider getting a different color Campdraft. Very nice lids!

Cheers,
JtL

Yes, the Camp Draft comes open crowned. The brim is 2 7/8" and is ribbon bound. I didn't measure the crown when open, but I assume it is 6" due to my hat size (7 5/8).

I think it's called "Taupe Fawn", which is slightly different then "Tawny Fawn" in some way that us non-Austrailian non-felters can't understand.

I really like the color, much better then a drak brown.

I have one too as well as a Federation and several Stetson Open Roads. These all seem to be essentially the same hat design as The Campdraft is modeled after the Open Road for Australia and the Federation appears to be the same hat as the Campdraft with a wider ribbon. I love these hats though they can be a bit tall for some faces which is the same as any of the Indiana Jones hats of which this is essentially the same style with color and ribbon variations. I do notice that the Akubra felt seems to be a bit heavier than the Stetson though Stetson seems to have had quite a bit of variation over the years in felt quality and weight in the Open Road model. It is a very durable hat that is suitable for dress as well as work and for me seems to be the ideal all around felt hat
