Akubra Bushman Color suggestions

Hi all,

I've been a lurker here for a long time but this is my first post. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a Akubra Bushman from David Morgan. Reason being it is pretty much readily available and I am looking for a a wider brimmed hat for outdoor wear here in the Southwest USA. Plus I have a pretty large head (62) and I think I look better with a bit wider brim. I like the squatter but I don't think I am going to wait 3-4 months.

I already have a Akubra Campdraft in Silverbelly. I think it is more on the tan side than true silverbelly but anyway I guess I have two colors available in the Bushman - Moonstone and Nullarbor Tan. Since I already have the silverbelly Campdraft what do you think would be the better compliment? This hat will see a lot of outdoor use so keeping that in mind. I wish this was offered in the glen gray as it has more black in it than say the lighter blue hue.

Anyway, I am over thinking this and could use some help. Is the Nullarbor Tan too close to the same color as the CD silverbelly? Would the Moonstone pick up too much dirt? Thanks for any suggestions to help me move forward.

My Camp Draft "Silverbelly" is TAN! Lol. And some of the "Moonstoons" look pretty darkish. I have a Moonstone Fed on order and asked for a lighter one if possible. Just what im into. Ask DM for pics of the actual hat you'll b getting (they should oblige) and then decide what u like.

I have both Bushmans, Nullarbor Tan & Moonstone. I bought the original then they came out with Moonstone.
Had the Moonstone been out first, I never would have the Nullarbor Tan one.
I have Campdrafts in both Moonstone & Glen Grey. The GG is in a box & gets no noggin time at all.
The Moonstone CD see lots of wear.
The NT Bushman is my "drover" hat = wear it horseback with a stampede string.

I am a huge Moonstone fan. Best color Akubra has IMHO. Versatile, goes with browns, blues, black & grey....

The NT is closer to Tawney Fawn than Silverbelly.
My vote is Moonstone Bushman...

I'd say they are very different colors

My opinion is just the opposite of Tom's. I like Akubra's Moonstone color and own it in two hats: Stylemaster and FED IV.

The Bushman in Nullarbor Tan is my "go to" hiking/camping hat. I would not like this style in Moonstone.

IMO the Moonstone works better as a "dressier" hat while brown works better for casual.

YMMV

Well outdoors is what I am going to use it for and it being more "brown" it may deal with dust more. I do need a gray shade too. Damn if I get the Bushman in NT i'm going to need to get another lid in a shade of gray!

The Bushman is a great hiking hat. Lots of coverage for sun and rain. You can put a drawstring on it and it has a little ventilation (very little but it does have two grommet holes).

Thanks for all the feed back. I ordered the NT color. This is going to be an outdoor hat. I'll order a gray city hat in the future. Thanks.

Just wore my Moonstone CD on a trip to Kansas City and it goes with a lot in colors. The Moonstone does not show dirt much at all, but you are right that it is a bit bluish though. It is not close to the Silverbelly or the Nullarbor Tan colors. I would think that you would be happy with either.

But here is a thought - get an Akubra Range from Everything Australian for the Summer sun protection and consider ordering the Squatter in Regency Fawn or Steel Gray for the 3 month wait. Gives you some color variety and a great sun hat for not much more money than the Morgan price for one hat.

Fed

That "bluish" shade is the reason I chose the Fed in that color.

Fed

The Akubra Squatter in Steel Gray is the next one I am considering.
