Akubra "Boss of the Plains" creasing suggestions.

I bought one of these along with a Campdraft a couple of months ago. I creased the Campdraft just fine, and like the look I was able to come up with. However, I can't seem to come up with a decent crease for the BOTP other than the cattleman's crease they show in their photo. Not bad, but it really tends to look like a trooper's hat more than I like. Nothing against troopers mind you.

So can anyone help in word or photos what might be an alternative?
The brim is pretty much molded into it's own shape, and super stiff. I don't mind it that way, it's the crown I'm looking for suggestions.

It's more of a western-inspired hat, yes? Here are some illustrated ideas:

You creeped me out for a second there, I also got my Campdraft and Boss of the Plains today! I am not going to attempt to crease either until the weekend when I am off. I am a little perplexed myself, the brim is really snappy so I can see this one being more difficult than what I am used to.
Can't wait to see what you come up with.:D

Thanks for that post, Dumbjaw. I pulled that one off for future reference. I plan on asking Major Moore for something with a western flavor sometime before long. I've been looking for some crease ideas. That hit the spot. Thanks!

Here's what I did with my David Morgan Bushman, which has a pretty tall, straightsided crown and a 3-1/8" bound snap brim. The brim's officially 3-1/4", but mine's a mfr's sample and not the production model.

It's sort of a cross between a cattleman's and a C-crown, so the top is sort of triangular and the side creases follow the two straight edges and point toward the front (rather than being parallel as in a cattleman's) while the back of the top is rounded. And the center of the crown is domed. I just checked that crease chart and it's a lot like the Tycoon.

Or maybe you'd like to try a sort of Gus bash like this. That's a front crease with two nearly circular side dents:

That 6-1/4" open crown is going to give you plenty to work with.

I am considering a BOTP. I have seen only 3 pics googling images of the hat on a persons head. Does anyone else have one and can you post some pics please.

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of one of these myself. I plan on putting a cattleman's crease in it and leaving the brim relatively flat, emulating the picture on the Everything Australian website.

I got a BOTP last summer. Don't let the stiff brim dissuade you from reshaping it. I simply used a steam iron (with a heavy t-shirt as the buffer between iron and hat) to iron the brim dead-flat. Then I used tea-kettle steam to soften it up and add a slight curl on the sides and a slight dip in the front. The hat cooperated nicely.

I ended up doing this simple telescope crown -- about 4.5" in the front, 4.25" in the back. With the tall open crown, you could easily do a John Wayne-ish pinchfront style. I've since added a wider hatband than the one shown in these pics. Overall, I found the hat very easy to work with, pretty much the same as the other 6 Akubra westerns I've tackled. I hope this helps :)

RLK has that gorgeous Stetson BOP without any crease, and killer tooled leather head band. He has pics wearing it on here somewhere. Very handsome as a traditional open crown. Here is the Ritch Rand version that I am seriously considering myself.
