Akubra Bogart

The Sydney is similar to the Akubra Fedora, minus the wind trolley and in a different selection of colors. The Akubra Fedora is available in burnt oak, carbon grey, and fern green, whereas the Sydney from Morgan is available in regency fawn and charcoal, NOT moonstone. Morgan's "charcoal" is darker than carbon grey. The Sydney combines an open crown with a raw 2-1/2" snap brim. The crown felt is very soft. You could give it a different dry bash every day if you wanted.

The David Morgan Squatter is open crown with a bound 3" brim and a ribbon band that's at least 1" wide, maybe 1-1/4" and is available in fawn, moonstone, and black.

Man would I love a Squatter with a ribbon band the size & color of the charcoal Sydney! Not sure if I'd want the binding that color or same as the felt...

The DM charcoal is about as close to black as you can get without being black. The moonstone is also a beautiful color, however, and seems to go with just about everything including tans and browns. I have a moonstone Fed IV Deluxe.

Do you think it would be possible to put a teardrop crown/C-crown in the Sidney, as all the pictures seem to show it with a centre dent only but I prefer this style.

No doubt about it as the Sydney comes open crown at 5 1/2"....
Probably if you're a size 61 or less. The Sydney has a very soft crown made for dry-bashing on a whim. I'm not sure how well it would hold a domed C-crown. Probably best to call David Morgan and ask.

One thing I'll say about the Sydney: With that very soft, pliable felt, that hat feels instantly broken-in the moment you put it on. It feels like a second skin.

Well, I am so taken by this Bogart I have ordered a Carbon Grey for a matched set :)

I can't pass these up, especially at $65.........

I would like to see other colors as well but I guess I should be happy with these two... They have updated their website to include the ordered of Carbon Grey now....

Thanks for the props on the Bullwinkle wings. Been too long since I heard "Bullwinkle" ;)

Hey, OG...so which color do you favor???

It is tough but I think the Grey wins out... I will wear that more than the black, but the black is awesome with black pinstripe suit... IMHO.....

Akubra are very confusing is the Sydney sold in The USA the same hat labelled the Stylemaster sold in Australia, they look the same? Akubra realy do need to get their act together, even the colour names are different, Never heard of Regency fawn? is that the same as Acorn fawn here in Australia?

I believe the Sydney is the same as the Fedora. The Stylemaster is definitely a different hat, with a bound-edge brim and a factory bash (the Sydney/Fedora is a soft open crown).

Regency Fawn and Acorn Fawn are not the same. Akubra has a whole bunch of Fawn colors. See these:

http://www.akubra.com.au/pdf/Akubra colour swatch card.pdf

It is true that Akubra could do a better job: There are nearly identical hat styles with different names (some unique to certain dealers). Some colors have two names (e.g., Mid-Grey = Steel Grey). Some colors (e.g., these greys and some brown tones) are MUCH darker when you get them in hand than their photos at the dealer sites and Akubra's own site. Having a single resource with all their felt colors evenly lit with the same lighting would be really useful.
