I know there is a lot of info through a search but I don't know how much of it is still valid at this time....

So If I wanted to order an Akubra Bogart where is the best place to order it. By best I mean I can contact them and get info on shipping and delivery etc etc.

I know a lot of you have Akubra's and can help me out here, I went to Hats Direct and couldn't find the Bogart, maybe I just couldn't work their site so I guess I need some help here....Thanks

OOOPS, edited to add I clicked on the right button and found the Bogart but now for the shipping,
what is the difference between:

Rest of world Airmail and Rest of World EMS Courier Other than the price of course ..
Air mail = $37.60AU
Courier = $ 59.40AU

As far as delivery method goes:

Airmail 5 - 10 Days
EMS Express Courier 3 - 4 Days - includes on line tracking at http://ice.auspost.com.au/

Tough call in some ways, but for UK they recommended not using EMS, as you're in USA I think you can choose either.

Glad you found the right hat there, I knew I had seen it on that site.

N. :)

Bogart at Hats Direct

According to their website, Hats Direct carries the Bogart only in black. If you email them using the link provided here, ask them about a given model's availability in a particular size and color. When I contacted them they had my size in carbon grey and gave me a link to how to make an order for an item when it's not on their website. They may have what you want in stock or coming in soon. Stateside, you usually receive your shipment about 7-10 days after you order from Hats Direct.

Converting Aussie dollars to USD, shipping for one hat comes to about $24, and about $34 for two.

But what is the difference between airmail and courier shipping, other than the amount of money charged?? Is one better than the other??

Whatever you do, don't order it from Hats By The Hundred. I had a terrible experience with them!

(I special-ordered a carbon grey Bogart with a black band and waited three months... and they sent me a black hat and insisted that it was carbon grey! They were willing to accept it as a return because it "didn't please me", but they wouldn't admit they had made a mistake or pay the return shipping.

The Bogart itself was a very nice hat, but if I had wanted a black one, I could have had it ten weeks earlier! I ended up selling it to another Lounger at cost, both because it was cheaper to ship it locally, and because I really didn't want to deal with these clowns any more.)

For the record, I have always had excellent service from other Australian dealers, like HatsDirect and Aussie Bush Hats and Oilskins...

Awhile back I asked Sam Menche of Everything Australian if he could get ahold of that hat, and what colors he could get ahold of. All I remember is he said he could get ahold of a carbon grey in addition to the black. This would, however, be special order - so expect it to take some time.

Cheers,
Rhabryn

Uh, no. Unlike the Bogart, the Sydney is not preshaped and has a plain-edge brim. And the Bogart has a considerably smaller brim (2.5 vs. 3.25 inches), and a lower, more tapered crown, than the Squatter.

As far as resembing a Bogart hat, it is a classic bound-edge, medium-brimmed, center-dent hat with a slightly wider ribbon, and can pass as being similar to an "average" 1940s hat.

Personally, I don't understand why Akubra doesn't also make the Bogart available as a stock item in grey and brown shades. I suspect they'd sell a lot more if it was easily available in colors other than black...

Talk about easy, I ordered it last night at around 7:30.

First thing this morning I have two emails, one saying they got my order, the second one saying they had it in stock and it is being sent to shipping with a tracking number.
I click on the tracking number and it has already left and is on it's way to ME !!
The email mentions that if I haven't received it by 5 days to contact them right away.... NOW THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE....... WOW.

Yes they mentioned I could email them for any special requests like other colors etc...... If I like this hat as much as I think, I just might try a grey even though I will have to wait, that is ok.....

It seems illogical that black is more common than grey for a Bogart hat, as it is definitely not black in any of the films, more likely grey or maybe brown. And if you look at the most famous Bogart films (Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon etc.) the hat does not have a centre dent but a hand shaped C-crown. So a Bogart hat should have a C-crown, or better still an open crown. So the Sidney sounds like a better Bogart hat, except for the brim size.

I totally agree, but whatever Akubra employee named the hat style was clearly just thinking of having the hat suggest Bogart's attitude, not trying to accurately replicate his hats.

I doubt whether anyone at Akubra did any real research, like tracking down stills from Bogart's films. (I'm assuming that the style is old enough to predate the days when such research could be done nearly instantly with Google, Wiki, and IMDB.)

Anyway, only crazies like us would notice that the Akubra Bogart isn't representative of Bogart's hats...

I agree that the difference between Akurbra's Bogart and the real Bogart hat are not that noticable to everyone in terms of bash. However, the colour is very easily noticable (or should I say shade since it's black and white), even for someone who knows little about hats in general.

Go back and re-read my post where I mentioned all this. When I emailed Hats Direct about a carbon grey Bogart, they had one in stock in my size. You may not have to wait at all. At the time they also had a silverbelly Campdraft in my size.

The Sydney is similar to the Akubra Fedora, minus the wind trolley and in a different selection of colors. The Akubra Fedora is available in burnt oak, carbon grey, and fern green, whereas the Sydney from Morgan is available in regency fawn and charcoal, NOT moonstone. Morgan's "charcoal" is darker than carbon grey. The Sydney combines an open crown with a raw 2-1/2" snap brim. The crown felt is very soft. You could give it a different dry bash every day if you wanted.

The David Morgan Squatter is open crown with a bound 3" brim and a ribbon band that's at least 1" wide, maybe 1-1/4" and is available in fawn, moonstone, and black.

The Bushman is an open crown hat with a bound 3.25" brim and a matching thin ribbon, sort of like a Campdraft with a 1/2" wider brim, but available only in Morgan's exclusive color, Nullarbor tan.

Mail-ordering Akubra hats is easier from David Morgan IF the company has what you're looking for. Once you figure in the Australian postage, Akubras from David Morgan aren't that much more money, you get them faster, you have a generous return period, and return postage is something like $8. The felt in the Morgan hats seems to be denser and even more rugged than the standard. The QA on his hats is very high. I'm speaking from owning 2 DM Akubras and having visited their showroom about 5 times.

The downside to dress hat enthusiasts is that David Morgan is primarily a purveyor of rugged outdoor wear, so his fedora offerings are limited to the Sydney, Adventurer, Squatter, and Casual Hat. The last time I was there, however (about 2 wks ago), they were looking over some factory samples of popular Akubra fedoras (e.g., Hampton, Stylemaster, Campdraft) to make available--if not directly from DM--then through the authorized US Akubra dealers (such as Village Hat Shop, Noggintops, etc.). To those I'd suggest they add the CEO or Safari, maybe the Bogart, and probably--for the dance club market--the Rap.

But anyway, they're looking into it, so keep your fingers crossed.

I was sort of replying to that..... sorry it didn't come out right. I will try Hats Direct first, But at this moment my hat fund is depleted and I will have to wait for the grey for a month or so.......

Sorry about misunderstanding. Re-reading your post I see it now. Anyway, save up your money (that's the responsible way) and order a carbon grey when you're ready, assuming you like the black one that's on its way. If you want to try something different, go for a Fed IV in either moonstone or carbon grey (or a Fedora in carbon) and bash it your own way.

It looks like EMS gets the hat to you in about 5 days; Australian air mail takes about 10 and that's what I always used. That's what accounts for the price difference.
