Yes. It's not a comment on quality (as I have never touched an Akubra) or appearance (the CD is a really nice looking hat), but I'm done with modern production hats unless something comes around that really blows my mind. For the cost of two Akubras, I can get most vintage hats in 7 3/8 or better, and for less than three Akubras, I can get an Art. At a smaller size, 7 1/4 or under, it's often less than 2 Akubras for a vintage. There are certainly exceptions.

I can see Akubra as a good starting point, as they seem to have a good rep. here, but in light of the other options if one chooses to save his pennies, I can't understand wanting to own more than one or two.
As with most hobbies/obsessions I get into...I WANT BOTH :D
I love my Akubras but currently my favorite hat is a vintage stetson. If I could by it in every available color I would. With that said, I will buy more vintage hats as deals on them are presented and in the mean time I will continue to buy Akubras (and a stetson nostalgia) as my hat budget allows.

I think Akubra deserves kudos for actually telling folks just how much beaver fur is in that hat.

For those who would like to see Akubra make fedoras with beaver fur, may I suggest you gang up and ask them to do so? The hats would most likely be more expensive than the Heritage models and would be available in a very limited choice of colors. Akubra won't do it unless they are sure the fedoras will sell, but they for sure won't do it if nobody asks.
