Something was calling me today, so I headed up the coast and picked this Akubra Stewart up for $5...it's pre-metric and virtually unworn, nice cavanagh edge too, a bit stingy but Ah like it!

Looks good to me from here. Honestly, I'm not sure what stingy is. I've been wearing a 2 1/4 in. pork pie around lately and I've received more compliments than any of my bigger brims. It's actually become my wife's favorite :).

How about a nog shot so we can be fair judges? :D

Well done Dr G. Vintage Akubras are hard to come by - and for 5 bucks in that condition??!!

I want the name and number of that Patron Saint of Lids you pray to!

mojo

It was actually $A8 but I put things in US$ for the benefit of our esteemed OS brethren
To match my powers, you might like to invest in some John the Conqueroo, monkey bone and greenstone for yo mojo bag, which I, as all musicians should, carry in my bass case...it covers all tings and bring de good fortune

99c?

Actually Dr G. Now that I take a closer look, it's got some similarities with to the Akubra Le Baron I posted recently. (And it cost me 0.99c):
Who you calling lucky?
Less than a buck for that!
It's good to know they are still out there and the op-shops haven't been taken over completely by frustrated antique dealers.
For general interest

Yep...no other interest showed in that one Dr G. It wasn't well presented and turned out to be a far better lid than I thought it was (I bought it mainly for the T. C. Beirne retailer mark on the sweat!).

I'm thinking that your lid and the Le Baron are almost identical except for the heavy double stitched overwelt on mine.

I just made a small addition to Le Baron...

Yep....McWhirters was Beirne's store manager till he went out on his own - across the road!

T.C.Beirne is also the name of the Law School I graduated from at UQ - thanks to a sizeable donation by Mr TCB to get the thing started back in the 20's.

TC Beirne's building is still there in Fortitude Valley, though it's been a David Jones, a Target and several other things since DJ's bought it in the 60's. The new owners have done some restoration and refitting, turned it into a mixture of apartments and retail and renamed it 'TCB'. Nice touch.
