Aged Vicenza leather

Below is a photo of Vicenza samples Holly sent me awhile back. Keep in mind individual batches can vary in color and grain. From left to right black, dark brown, seal brown, russet brown:

@ksozay posted this a while back. I prefer CXL myself, it might take longer to break in but in my opinion looks x1000 better when it is than vicenza.

That is what all horsehides aspire to be.
Silly newbie question, what does CXL stand for?

Totally agree Plumbline. At the the time I couldn’t be arsed sending it back and besides I had toyed with a Russet one anyway. I was a wee bit disappointed with Denny’s response at the time tho as it’s clearly Russet.

With the number of blackened brown vicenza jackets shipped by Thurston (going by their thread here), I am surprised that we don’t see more examples of aged blackened brown jackets!

I have a Vicenza jacket in a dark brown (it may be seal) - it's only a few weeks old and it already looks creased up and scuffed. This appears to be a fast ageing hide.

I picked up an Aero Ridley in the Blackened Brown Vicenza in April and have been wearing it as much as possible since then. Recently wore it in on a 10-day trip to Chile and wore it non-stop. I think the reason you don't see many worn-in pictures of the blackened brown is that it seems to be incredibly color-fast. I have some decent wear-time on this jacket and there isn't even a hint of the brown-base showing through yet. I have a Sheene in black CXLFQHH and the brown started showing in high-wear areas (zipper piping, wrists) very rapidly. My Ridley so far is feeling pretty broken in and comfortable but color-wise still looks brand new. Sort of like the opposite of FCL teacore jackets. It seems like a good tea-core patina on the blackened brown will take a significant effort.

I actually have Holly sending me, as we speak, some Vicenza samples.. So is the Seal Brown Vicenza supposed to be the same as Seal Jerky HH.. Meaning same color..???

They are both 'seal' coloured, but the leathers are very different and what is called 'seal' may vary quite a lot.

That's actually Horween leather called Vermont Espresso.

This is a somewhat worn in Vicenza.

Colors will vary from batch to batch even for the exact same leathers. Maybe the seal Vicenza HH is a tad lighter in color than seal jerky HH. However the seal Vicenza is far better than seal jerky in terms of richness, texture and hand. Seal Vicenza also has a better drape than seal jerky. In any case, IMHO seal Vicenza HH is well worth the additional upcharge and then some!
