I had an interesting conversation with a friend the other day.

We were discussing our stage in life (mid fifties) and all that goes with it. Eventually the topic of personal style came up. We joked a lot about styles from the 80’s etc., and what may look good on some folks, doesn’t always look good on others.

At this point, I mentioned that I was considering another leather jacket purchase and showed her this ….

The response I got was “that’s not very age appropriate”. It was said tongue in cheek, but still, it got me to thinking and it gave me pause …

Am I over the hill for such a jacket? I mean I don’t ride. What say the collective brain power here.

Wear whatever you want and feel comfortable with,, I feel completely overdressed in a suit and tie but if needs must so be it, but I'm back in my favourite clothes as soon as.

For my part, also in the mid fifties, I found my style and have always been a fan of cross-zipped leather jackets. For me, the question is not whether I can wear a certain jacket style or not, but rather, should I get another jacket that will outlive me...

I had the same reservations not about leather jackets in general, but about wearing cross zips at 63. I said the hell with it and could not be happier.

Us guys that married above our station are forced to fight to stay somewhat fashion relevant, regardless of our age. If she likes it then go for it. Maybe move a nice Himel to a fan south of the border???

"Smoke em if you got em!" Style's about the last thing on my mind. Puddin' says "I have one" but it's not a "deliberate" thing. In other words I don't go looking for clothing to match a particular "look" I have in mind. I like what I like and I wear it, long as it fits comfortably or keeps me from freezing to death!

I've lived in NYC most of my life, I've seen guys wear gorilla costumes, tutu's and everything in between. One of the things that always stood out to me about individual style is if you wear it with confidence you are never wrong. I think a guy rockin a second skin broken-in leather jacket is age appropriate up to your last minute. No regrets, no looking back.

As long as you wear your stuff, and it doesn’t wear you, I don’t think „appropriate“ becomes an issue.

Just as a side note: I actually don’t notice many sub-30 folks wearing leather jackets these days.
