Aero Wait times.

[I would go out tonight]

As long as the manufacturer is open, I think a wait, and a little inaccessibility, makes the item more attractive. I have waited for both Aero and Ciano and have not been disappointed, and the wait does not figure in my consideration of the next order. For me, a wait of 4 to 5 months for an Aero is about right. Order for the incoming season and time to save.

The hunt is often better and more satisfying than the kill. During the hunt, as we pursue the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, anything is possible and our imagination is boundless. Once the kill occurs, the endless possibilities become a defined reality which often falls far short of our dreams, and the chapter closes with a thud.

Its kinda like when you are walking around with a lottery ticket in your pocket before the drawing. Up until the moment the numbers are drawn, you are a multi-millionaire planning how you will spend your prize money. That's the hunt. Then, when the numbers are drawn, reality sets in and you are $20 poorer. That's the kill.

That reminds me of this story:

While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator was tragically hit by a car and died.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the Senator.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.


They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.

They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven...”

So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell...

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage. He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil smiles at him and says,
"Yesterday we were campaigning, Today, you voted.."

From speaking to a couple top end makers and from watching the 'jacket' boards, it seems this is sort of typical when it comes to the Italian leather and it's various tanneries. They are very, very old school. No email communication and barely speaking anything other than Italian.
Reading between the lines, it seems to me that they have been surprised by this surge in demand for their leather. Especially with the specific specs that they are now being asked to produce. Plus the tanning process and the suitable skins for it are on a natural timeline, not a Swiss watch style mechanical one.

This is absolutely true- especially dealing with Italy- different way of doing things. They think we in North America are different.

I hate waiting for stuff ....... especially waiting what I consider to be unreasonable amounts of time e.g. 24 months .. by that time I've changed my mind 27 times and will have sold whatever I would have bought

As John Lever once siad "There's no such thing as a keeper !" and I've yet to find a leather jacket worth waiting more than 8 weeks for ( and even at that 8 weeks is a push) there are plenty of alternative suppliers out there, it's also why I love Ebay and sale pages .. choice and competiton mean it's a buyers world.

Excellent choice in jacket, color and hide and a wise decision to go with Wade and Carrie. They know their business.

I know for a fact that John is still beating himself up over selling his original ELC ANJ-4, so he'd probably be wrong on this score.

Conversely there's also joy in selling and giving away jackets. Had over 20 leathers. Now I have 2. Simplifies my life. Made some $ too. I've almost gotten addicted to moving things on. Someone else said here (was it Butte?) there's a burden in having possessions. Especially when there's too many.

Absolutely. In the last two years, I've donated 6 jackets. Three were brand new and three lightly used. I also sold three leather jackets. The ones that made me feel the best were the Schott 3XL wool jackets that were all unused and too big for me - bought at a sale when I was "larger". I know from talking to the folks at the winter jacket charity that the larger sizes are really hard to get and I felt good knowing some big guys would get nice, new and warm jackets.
Even now, I'm feeling the pinch to clean out again as I have acquired three jackets (used) in the last year, and one more on the way. Not sure what I could even get rid of, but I've pruned the footwear and shirts, etc. all down pretty far. Of course I still have 5x more gear than I "need" so while I'm a step or two beyond @Superfluous' recovery, I'm not ready to be out on my own yet...

Giving them away is half of the fun. The girl I lost my Lady of Guadalupe to gained a 70s Schott CHP jacket. It's an equilibrium.
