Thanks! For a stock jacket, I’m pretty happy with it. Honestly I don’t think I would change anything. I haven’t had a custom that fit this well.

That’s how I felt when I opened mine and put it on. And just wait until the compliments start rolling in. A lot of the jackets we wear aren’t for everyone but that black horsehide type 3 is a real crowd pleaser. I can’t tell you how many of my friends have seen it for the first time and instantly said: “I want that jacket!”

LOL! It’s starting to become cliche around here but....when my wife saw it she immediately said she liked it! That never happens.
She usually shrugs and looks at me like I’m an idiot and asks me “how much did this one cost” Haha.

Just an observation.... this jacket (blackened brown Vicenza) feels significantly lighter and thinner than my older Black Vicenza cafe racer.

Not necessarily a bad thing, it works with this style. When I mentioned that to Carrie, she said that with all the seams on the front of a trucker that a lighter leather was probably a good thing...that it wouldn’t be to stiff. The lighter feel of it also fits into my “quiver” of jackets pretty well as I have heavy leather, some mid weight, and now this which I would consider pretty lightweight. so this is not a complaint at all...it’s a sweet jacket and because of the weight I can see this being somewhat of an all year jacket, being able to wear it even in those cool summer nights when my other jackets are just to heavy....it almost reminds me of lightweight goat leather but with the look and feel of horse.

Just wondering if Aero specifically chooses lighter leather for this style, or if this is just representative of the Vicenza they are selling these days?

I almost spec’d my PHWM in blackened brown Vic...thinking it would have been similar to the weight of my Black Vic Cafe Racer. I changed at the last minute to CXL FQHH. (Probably receive the PHWM in a day or two, just got the DHL notification that it has cleared customs)

Mentioning this because I am glad I did change to CXL. Although I like this trucker (a lot)...not sure I would have been happy with this lightweight Vicenza had this been what I received if I had ordered it for my PHWM.

Very well said, I feel the same way about mine. This was my first experience with Vicenza leather so I did not have anything to compare it to but I was pleasantly surprised by the weight when I received it. Because it is so light I find that it drapes the same way a denim type 3 would and that just makes the jacket feel right to me.

This is serendipitous post for me. I also just picked up a Type III in blackened-brown Vicenza with the same Troy Mills blanket lining, size 42... although mine is coming directly from Aero, via their stock/used/vintage page.

Regarding the sizing of Aero’s Type III: is it similar to something like a Board Racer or a Premier Highwayman, just with bigger shoulders?

I ask because the pit-to-pit measurements are similar in all three models. I always kind of focus on the pit-to-pit measurement with jackets, because I’ve found that’s usually a pretty good indicator of how slim a jacket will fit (YMMV).

That said, while the particular size 42 Type III I bought has a pit-to-pit of roughly 22.5”, which is in keeping with the pit-to-pit measurements of size 42 Board Racer and Premier Highwayman examples, the shoulders are quite a bit broader.. 19.25”, much broader than the other two models, which usually measure out anywhere from 17.25” to 17.75” in a 42.

I like a slimmer fitting jacket, so my Board Racer is a 42, while in the “standard size” Aero models I’m usually around a 38, or sometimes a 40. My size 42 Board Racer has a pit-to-pit of 22.5” and the shoulders are 17.75”. It’s definitely a slim up and down jacket, but I wouldn’t mind a bit more room in the shoulders... so 19.25” sounds pretty good, assuming the body remains similarly slim compared to the Board Racer.

Thoughts?

My Trucker is a size 38. My (on order) premier highwayman is a size 42.

There is more to it than just P2P. Different patterns just fit differently regarding how low/high the armholes are, leather choice, etc...
I can get away with a smaller P2P in a jacket with lower arm holes and lighter leather (like Vic) if the shoulders fit me well...like my Trucker, it’s a 38. Shoulders are 18.25, P2P is 21”.

I needed a 42 in the premier Highwayman and I still had to ask for a custom mod to get the shoulders widened to get to 18.25”...it has a wider P2P, probably 22” give or take a bit, but higher arm holes and is CXL.

not sure how it’s going to fit yet but I’ll have it in a couple days and can post final measurements and pics when I receive it.

I would say it is similar to classic Levis type 3 jacket. My understanding of the Board Racer and PHM is that they are both trim fit jackets with narrow shoulders, that is not true of the Aero Type 3. I wear a size 44 in most of the Aero’s I have owned (Bootlegger, Teamster, HWM) and my Type 3 is a 44 as well. I think I would have to go up to a size 46 to fit a PHM and I think my shoulders are too broad to try a Board Racer.

Uh-oh. I may have to cancel then... sounds like a Type III in size 42 may be huge on me...

I’m around 6’, 170 pounds, and I’d definitely be floating in a size 42 Bootlegger, Teamster, or standard Highwayman.

As everyone else has mentioned, the jacket fits you incredibly well! I wasn't the biggest fan of denim-style leather jackets but yours and the other shown has started to grow on me. If I were to ever get one it would probably be a Type 1 though
