Aero prices increased

Aero is just trying to keep pace with the depreciation of the British pound against gold (ie. real money). The price of the Aero isn't going up; the price of the pound is going down (along with the price of every other paper currency). Mark my words: in the next 1-2 years, there will be a worldwide currency crisis. Nobody will be able to afford to live anymore and they'll demand the end of paper money and a return to the gold standard. Then the price of leather jackets will never increase. Oh that'll be the day!

lol that's crazy prices. Over a thousand for a half belt now? I think I paid 400 for mine back in the day. As Ken use to say, every jacket is only about two hides... So a hide of horse cost what? $100.00-$200 tops if you buy them in bulk.

I guess the good news is, I can now sell mine for way more than I paid for it...

Not that simple. Open a business and see for yourself. Horses are not that cheap. Labor is not cheap. Property, upkeep/taxes/utilities, equipment upgrades/maintenance...the list goes on. That doesn't even take into account the falling currencies of the world, general recession/depression, etc.
If you can't find the cash, then save, or get used, or get a lesser jacket.
But I don't think it fair to jab Aero over this. My 2¢

Oh, certainly, the labour is going to be the biggest chunk of what any specialist jacket costs, IMO.

I'm sure the price increase looks more from the US end too, as the pound seems to be finally beginning to pick up a bit against the dollar.

Just out of curiosity Im wondering how this works.
To me, the pound have been the most stable currency against the Norwegian crown. It has been around 9.2-8.8 for the last couple of years.

The dollar have gone from 7 to being about 5.3 and it has never been cheaper in my entire life.
The euro was 8.4 last summer and now its down to 7.5
Pound is now 8.7

So as I said, I know nothing about this, but it its stable against my currency, it should be stable against others....or?

Last price increse really made the jackets expensive for me personally, and now they are really expensive.
However, a Nudie leather jacket goes for $1400 here and its shit compared to an Aero.
We have been spoiled to be able to get not only one but 3,4 and more Aeros.
Now we just have to think longer of what we want as a lifetime jacket and save 6 more months, its still worth it.

Forget currencies. Think business. People need raises.
They've been lenient on extras so maybe it's just them tightening up their business model from years of being a smaller in-house operation. Now they obviously have a big client base and it's catching up to them.
Buy now if you have the cash.

I'd be interested in where they get their horsehide from. I was under the impression that the horsehide we see here in the US is sourced from Mexico.

Aero gets its hides from Horween (Chicago), which gets the hides from Italy. That used to be the flow, and it may still be the same. Not sure how a raw hide is shipped from Italy to Chicago without substantial deterioration of the hide. Obviously there is a way.

Not sure how, but I would not be sure that other makers won't raise prices too. Reasonable is in the eye of the beholder - or, buyer. There are always cheaper ways to go. Do what fits your budget and makes you happy...

I was about to push the boat out and buy a 30s halfbelt, but I can't really justify paying the money now. A shame, but I'll just have to look for the right second hand/vintage option.

Spoke with mark of aero USA on Thursday, and according to him the price increase was news to just about everyone. He told me that his prices will remain at previous levels for a few more days to tie up some loose ends. If you were on the fence before I would say now is the time to place an order!

Want prices to come down??? - STOP BUYING RIGHT NOW. These jackets are only repros, have no historical value, and can be manufactured in any quantity and quality. Prices will continue to go up as long as manufacturers know people will pay them.

Yeah, great idea.
Thanks for shedding light for all of us rubes. And while you're at it, find me a size 52L WWII jacket.

I don't care about military reproductions, I just want the best made leather jacket I can get and Aero does this at the lowest cost.
Yes there are cheaper jackets but they arent upp to snuff imho.
So if not Aero, then where? Lost worlds and The few are higher yet!

After trying many of the different companies out there(and vintage)....besides Aero..only Goodwear utility jackets remain tempting to me.....
