Wow, thanks for the full and informative answers.

@Fanch, it's exclusive to Insurrection in the same sense that horsehide is exclusive to Horween

Is the jacket very restrictive, and can you get a light sweater under it? The trend certainly seems to be going in that direction.

For the last month or so, I’ve had two sample swatches of the Italian Vincenza leather sitting on my desk. It’s one thing to examine a 2 x 4 inch sample of leather; quite another to imagine how it will look when made into an entire leather jacket. This is the first review I’ve seen, from the consumer side of things, that fills in some of the missing blanks- on the pliability, grain and character of the Vincenza on an actual jacket delivered.
For me, it’s a big help in finding that mythical grail- a leather with substance, yet supple and not stiff; a leather with character and patina, yet without all the pitfalls of a vintage jacket or the lengthy break-in curve. Many thanks, Superflous for your comprehensive review. And that is one beautiful fit on that jacket!

Very nice. They're only photos but that looks far more comfortable and vintage than the FQHH.

In terms of build quality, I'd say Gibson and Barnes and Schott do more robust and accurate stitching than the Aeros I've seen, but the Aero appears to be more authentically hand crafted so that's part of it and Aero's patterns are better tailored.

In the end I think it's personal taste and whether you want custom details that makes the difference.

Beautiful jacket. Looks great on you.

That is true. Perhaps it's the thickness of the leather that has something to do with it, but Aero's workmanship isn't as precise, let's call it, as that of some of the other brands out there. Belstaff, for example, is literally perfect in that regard. But then again, for that kind of money I wouldn't settle for anything short of perfection. LW and even Schott jackets that I've seen all had really great stitching while with Aero and Vanson I could always find some parts where there was some struggling involved. :D

Thickness of the leather definitely has a lot to do with it; you'd have to be comparing like with like, really - i.e. Horween FQHH or Bison with Horween FQHH or Bison.... as opposed to comparing it to, say, a light goat jacket or the sort of lamb hides that some of the fashion labels use - especially Belstaff. Any Belstaff hide I've seen in the last decade.... strip out the lining and I think I could probably spit through it. TBH, the last leather Trailmaster I saw, the lining was probably heavier than the shell. It must have been like sewing a pillowcase! ;)

Yes, I don't think Belstaff's stuff really comparable in construction with much of Aero's jackets. Every so often, if I see a Belstaff in a shop, I'll try it on, then look at the price tag, and then laugh. :D

The new horsehide, though, is lovely stuff. There is a price premium to be paid for it, though as it's costing Aero, if memory serves, £350 odds a hide, that's hardly surprising. I tried on one of these new 30s HB jackets, actually, up there. Didn't pay it much mind as it was only for sizing and not the model I was after, but it was nice. Lovely hide. It would be interesting to compare one side by side with the standard 30s HB model to see exactly how the differences in fit stack up (I've owned two of the latter, and neither have had what I would call low armholes or wide arms). Sounds, though, like the new one is more of the elusive "Japanese fit"? Either way, that Italian horsehide is lovely stuff. I still love my Horween FQHH jackets, but the plethora of hides suddenly on the market in the last eighteen months is great.

(It's not only me sees that as a justifying-mechanism for more jackets - more hides? No?)

Yes, though they make some pretty jackets, leather Belstaff's using for their trendy stuff seems like it couldn't get any thinner, but their classical line, like the Panther and such, is still quite sturdy and thick. Or at least it's supposed to be..? Last winter I've had a chance to handle a new(er) Panther - I could neither afford one or justify affording one - and sure, while perhaps it wouldn't be fair to compare it to Aero or LW, it did seem like a substantial product that serves it's purpose as a riding jacket - also, one that was insanely beautiful at that. I myself hate to admit this but I have yet to see as gorgeous looking leather from either of TFL favored brands. . .

Jacket looks great, Superfluous. Could I ask what size you went for, your chest size and the hide colour. Sorry if this info is in the thread somewhere and I have missed.

I would love to help, but I no longer own the jacket and I do not recall the details. You might ask Insurrection.
